Multidisciplinary education and learning This portfolio of education has been consulted upon with Health Education England along with representatives from NHS foundation trusts. The presentation of the portfolio takes a theme-based approach and significant attention has been given to ensure that we deliver the courses to a multidisciplinary workforce. Our programmes emphasise throughout improving the quality of care to patients and service users, and reflect innovative and integrated pathways of care enhancement. Patient safety and compassion All our courses are developed in collaboration with service managers, patients and service users to ensure our students and graduates are fit for purpose and practice. We expect all our students to understand the values of our School which are commensurate with those of the health and social care services. These include compassion, care, competence, communication, courage and commitment along with showing respect, dignity and honesty in all walks of life. It is important that every effort is made to ensure patient and service user safety. It is an absolute requirement that everyone in the caring professions brings to the attention of their immediate manager any situation which compromises standards of care. * tees.ac.uk/source

External accreditation for awards delivered with partners We continue to accredit externally delivered awards and courses with partner organisations. These awards are quality assured by the University and can be approved at the appropriate credit rating and academic level. You can use the credits achieved towards a claim for recognised prior learning (RPL) against other University awards/courses. A schedule of accreditation fees is now available for discussion, consideration and negotiation with external partners. For further information, please contact Linda Nelson, Associate Dean (Enterprise & Business Engagement) at linda.nelson@tees.ac.uk or on Health Education England funding The University has a contract with Health Education England (HEE) to deliver a portfolio of continuing workforce development (CWD) activity for the academic year. Those courses/ masterclasses identified with a black tick ( ) under the HEE funded column are available to non-medical staff, bands 5 and above, employed by NHS foundation trusts, clinical commissioning groups and NEAS. Places may be limited due to commissioned numbers, therefore, it is advisable you contact admissions before applying to check whether a funded place is still available at sohscadmissions@tees.ac.uk. Limited funding for the independent sector and GP practices Please note: up to 10% of our CWD contract can also be accessed by bands 5 and above from the independent sector, National Blood Service, GP clinical non-medical practice staff and NHS area commissioning teams but the University requires confirmation from HEE that the organisation is providing care for NHS patients. You can get further guidance from cpd@ne.hee.nhs.uk. Other funded courses There are also some limited funded places available for those courses identified with an orange tick ( ) under the HEE funded column. Before applying we recommend you check with admissions whether a funded place is still available: sohscadmissions@tees.ac.uk. Cancelling a place on a funded course If you reserve a place on one of our HEE-funded courses and don t attend without formally cancelling your place before the first day of the course, you or your employer may be invoiced for the relevant fee by HEE. Self-funded courses We offer a number of courses which you can pay for yourself or be sponsored through your employer. They are identified with a blue tick ( ) under the self-funded column. Courses offered as funded under HEE can also be accessed by fee paying students, subject to places being available. These courses will be charged at the standard University fee for both full-time and part-time programmes. Students enrolled on masters or degree programmes may be eligible to apply for a tuition fee loan through the Student Loans Company, as long as the programme meets the funding criteria. For self-funding students, that is students that are responsible for paying their own tuition fees, the University offers options for paying by instalments. If you have a financial sponsor (for example, employer) who has agreed to pay your tuition fees, you must provide full details of your sponsor during the online registration/ enrolment process and if a purchase order number is required to be quoted on the invoice then please ensure this is ed to finance@tees.ac.uk. RPL Previous successful study or significant experience within your field of practice may allow you to apply for recognition of prior learning (RPL). We charge a fee for this. For further advice contact our Admissions department who will direct you to the relevant member of academic staff. An RPL entry route is available that may enable students to have their work experience recognised in order meet the entry criteria for a top up degree. If you are interested in knowing more about this route please contact Paul Taylor, RPL Assessor at p.c.taylor@tees.ac.uk or on Find out more More detailed information about each award or course can be found on our website: tees.ac.uk/health&socialcare. 15 Higher Apprenticeship Health (Assistant Practitioner) Higher and degree apprenticeships are a new government initiative enabling you, as an employer, to get significant funding towards the cost of an apprenticeship to recruit new staff or develop existing employees. How it works Your apprentice should normally be employed at least 30 hours a week, working in a health and/or social care setting. They will be in employment in a health-related role while studying part time for a work-based foundation degree in health and social care practice. The higher apprenticeship offers the opportunity for your employee to extend their clinical skills and to develop their understanding of the theory underpinning practice. Benefits to you The course has been developed in consultation with senior managers and employers to meet the education and training requirements of assistant/support workers across all health and social care services. It offers a range of modules to support their continuing personal and professional development in health, social or community care. Routes currently available include (subject to demand); radiography, adult nursing, mental health nursing, learning disabilities nursing, rehabilitation and perioperative care. Fees and funding Higher and degree apprenticeships are funded by employers and the government in one of two ways: Apprenticeship levy-paying employers (those with pay bills over 3m) pay for apprenticeship training from their online levy accounts through the government s new apprenticeship service. They also receive a 10% government top-up to their online accounts. Non-levy payers only pay 10% of the cost of apprenticeship training with the remaining 90% being paid by the government. Your role > Provide your employee with opportunities to develop in practice, and to evidence knowledge and skills gained. > Release your employee to attend external off-the-job training and assessment as part of their paid working hours. > Provide a workplace mentor for your employee. Entry requirements You set the general internal selection criteria but your employee also need to meet the entry requirements specified by the University. T: +44 (0) E: sohscadmissions@tees.ac.uk
