4 SCHOOL PROFILE HISTORY Rolla Techical Istitute/Rolla Techical Ceter (RTI/RTC), which is a part of the Rolla Public Schools system, bega offerig career ad techical educatio i At that time, the buildig at 1304 East 10th Street was kow as Rolla Area Vocatioal Techical School. The school s ame was chaged to Rolla Techical Istitute (RTI) i Sice by the late 1990s RTI had outgrow the origial buildig, a secod buildig was built i 1998 at 500 Forum Drive o property already owed by the school district. This ew buildig, kow as Rolla Techical Ceter (RTC), was expaded i RTI ow houses the Trade ad Techical programs; RTC houses the Allied Health programs. STUDENT POPULATION RTI/RTC serves approximately 300 adult studets ad approximately 600 high school studets each year. The high school studets are from 11 sedig schools located i the tows of Belle, Bourbo, Cuba, Lickig, Newburg, Owesville, Rolla, Salem, St. James, Steelville, ad Viea. The adult studets commute from approximately a 50-mile radius. Some programs are offered oly to adults; others are offered oly to high school studets. Still other programs have a mixture of adult ad high school studets, which has bee a positive situatio for both groups. The adult studets serve as role models for the high school studets, ad both groups of studets lear from each other. ACCREDITATION RTI/RTC is accredited by North Cetral Associatio ad the Missouri Departmet of Elemetary ad Secodary Educatio. I additio, specific programs are accredited by appropriate accreditig bodies for their fields. For example, the Radiologic Techology program is accredited by the Joit Review Committee for Educatio i Radiologic Techology. 2

7 DENTAL HYGIENE Applicatio Deadlie: Jauary 31 at MSSU for fall classes The 2-year Detal Hygiee program is offered through Missouri Souther State Uiversity (MSSU) ad studets must apply for admissio to the Departmet of Detal Hygiee at MSSU. Studets receive classroom istructio at RTC as well as hads-o traiig i the RTC detal cliic, radiology laboratory, ad detal materials laboratory. Studets who successfully complete the program are eligible to take the Detal Hygiee Natioal Board Examiatio ad practical board examiatios required for licesure i Missouri ad other states. DIAGONSTIC ULTRASOUND Applicatio Deadlie: April 1 for classes begiig i August after the previous 18-moth program is completed. Diagostic Ultrasoud is a 18-moth program i Soography, a medical procedure usig high frequecy soud waves. Studets atted eveig classes two ights a week at RTC where the ultrasoud lab is equipped with three state-ofthe-art ultrasoud machies. They obtai practical experiece workig three 8-hour shifts a week at a variety of cliical sites. Prerequisites Overall GPA of at least 2.75 or a GPA of 2.50 with a ACT composite score of 25 or higher. 8 EMT BASIC FIRE & RESCUE Emergecy Medical Techicia-Basic is a 1-semester course that begis i August ad Jauary each year. The course is taught accordig to Departmet of Trasportatio (DOT) curriculum guidelies, but also icludes various rescue techiques such as rappellig, WMD-Awareess, ad rough terrai rescue. Traiig cosists of approximately 160 hours of classroom traiig, as well as 56 hours of cliical ad itership experieces at several hospitals ad umerous ambulace sites. This course prepares the studet to work as a team member i a pre-hospital (ambulace) settig. The studet is taught basic skills i treatig various ijuries ad illesses. After successful completio of the program, the studet is eligible to take the Natioal Registry Examiatio for EMT-Basic. 14 CONSTRUCTION TRADES Costructio Trades is a 2-year program that is desiged to qualify studets for etry-level employmet i the buildig trades field. Some classroom work is required, but the primary learig experiece is through hads-o work at the job site. Each year the studets build a 1,200 to 1,500 square foot house that is sold o the ope market upo completio. The project begis with preparig the site ad icludes most of the activities required to build a house.
