1 Report of Elderly Care Traiig i Nepal 1. Backgroud Globally, there is uprecedeted icrease i ageig populatio. Hece, this 21 st cetury is said to be the cetury of older persos. Ageig populatio accouts for 13% of world s total populatio. It is also estimated that the umber of ageig populatio will be tripled by I Nepal, there were 1.5 millio ageig populatio i 2001 ad 2.1 millio i 2011 which costitute 6.5% ad 8.1 % of the total populatio, respectively. Durig the years , the aual ageig populatio growth rate was 3.39 percet which is higher tha that of aual populatio growth rate (2.3 percet). O the other had, uclear family system has replaced joit ad exteded family system due to moderizatio ad urbaizatio. This coupled with high migratio of youth reders elderly members ulikely to receive proper care ad love eve though they are at home. I such coditio, the elderly with chroic disease ad helpless eeds a care taker. However, there is lack of well-traied caretakers i Nepal to take care of elderly. 2. Problem This large umber of populatio eeds special cosideratio for their iclusio i societal maistreamig. But the situatio of this populatio is very vulerable due to lack of proper care. I the cotext of Nepal, well-traied huma resource for the elderly care are ot available. 3. Itroductio of the Programme Ageig Nepal (AN) ad Hope Hermitage Nepal (HHN) i collaboratio with Miistry of Wome, Childre ad Social Welfare (MoWCSW) ad i support of Ageig Nepal Switzerlad orgaized a 10 day s log elderly care traiig programme from Feb. 15, 2016 to Feb 27, The programme was focused o policies ad programmes o ageig, rights of older people, cosequeces of elder abuse, elderly health, Alzheimer s ad

related ad way to cope elderly with differet persoality as caregiver i day to day life. 4. Objectives The traiig programme was orgaized to meet the followig objectives.

Participats We are very happy to ote that the participats of the traiig programme were from differet districts of Nepal. Evaluatio There was a detailed evaluatio of every lesso, the practical s ad the whole course. Here the most sigificat results are poited out. I a ratig from 1 to 10 the studets gave a average of 9.6 poits for the questio how useful they thik the taught subject will be for their work as a caregiver. Almost the same result showed us the evaluatio filled i by the teachers. They rated 9.4 poits. By the evaluatio of the geeral degree of difficulties, the umber give by the studet is 4.7 ad the teachers rated a average of 5. The ratig i the studets ad the teachers evaluatio was far spread betwee 1 ad 10. To metio is that the level of educatio of participats reached from very low to high. Some of them ca t read or write ad others are highly educated.

12 For the mediatio of the subject matter, the studet rated a average umber of Lessos Leared This is the very first traiig for Caregivers o Ageig i Nepal. It has bee proved as a milestoe i the field of elderly care i Nepal. The orgaizig team got a opportuity to lear the followig lessos. Time frame of traiig: The orgaizig team triggered that the time frame was ot coveiet for the traiees as some of them were workig already as caregivers i differet old age homes. So, the team realized that the traiees faced problem i time maagemet. Compulsio of power poit i Nepali laguage: As most of the traiees were from grass root level of the society, they faced difficulty i uderstadig the traiig materials which were preseted i Eglish laguage. The traiig would be more effective if all slides were i Nepali laguage. Degree of difficulties: The ratig was spread. Parallel to the kowledge level of the studets. The traiig would be more effective if the studets would have the same level of experiece ad educatio.
