Using TRUE or FALSE, answer the following questions based upon your initial "gut" reaction. Do not deliberate on any item or try to answer as you might think you are expected to feel or think. 1. We all are mentally ill at certain times in our lives. 2. Suicidal persons are mentally ill. 3. Persons addicted to drugs or alcohol deserve more tax money for better treatment and rehabilitation. 4. It would be unwise to marry a person whom has been treated for mental illness. 5. A person who would murder a child must be mentally ill. 6. 4 Communication Lab example HALLUCINATING CLIENT SITUATION: Part 1 Thirty four year old male, Cedrick Deeks, has been diagnosed with chronic schizophrenia and is readmitted to the Crisis Stabilization Unit. The nurse is meeting him for the first time. Cedrick has been hearing voices. These voices keep telling him that world destruction is about to begin and that Cedrick is to blame for bringing this on due to his failure to get anywhere in life or become anything. Part 2 Later in the day, Cedrick has grown scared and agitated. Avoiding eye contact, tells nurse don t look me in the eyes tells the voices I don t want to do that, she's a nice person. Keeps looking behind him. Values clarification Example Kelly Blue, 45 y.o. physician in a neonatal ICU, homosexual. Pat Wright, 25 y.o., police officer, intimate partner to Kelly Blue for 10 years. Kandy Korn, 29 y. o., prostitute, single mother of a 12 year old. Molly Todd, 22 y.o., illegal immigrant, housekeeper at Queen and Princess resort, newly married. Frank Miller, 45 y.o., father of four (Darcy, Marcy, and a six year old and three year old who are not on the plane), recovering alcoholic (sober X6 months). Carrie Miller, 38 y.o., wife of Frank, step-mother to Darcy & Marcy and mother of two younger children (at home), is being treated for breast cancer. Darcy Miller, 15 y.o., high school cheerleader, class representative, and Homecoming Princess. Marcy Miller, 15 y.o., high school drop-out, Crack addict, past arrest for assault, identical twin to Darcy.
