3 Implementing a Statewide Maternal Transport Nurse Course: An Academic & Clinical Collaboration Objectives: Describe how a statewide collaboration of academic and clinical providers promotes evidence-based nursing practice, creating a standard of care. Explain how collaboration of academic and clinical providers, and the coordination of resources promotes development of cost effective simulated learning experiences, for students and registered nurses, with goal of improving perinatal outcomes. Describe how a simulated transport, utilizing student nurses as standardized live patients, enhances the learning experience for both the labor and delivery nurse and the student nurse.

10 Evaluation of Pilot Course L & D Nurse Outcomes Overall gain of knowledge & skills 100% support of course for all sending L & D Nurses in DE Excellent learning experience Definitely need to continue course I ve been on transports & learned new information today! Demonstrated competency through posttest & debriefing Student Nurse Outcome Participation reinforced theoretical Exposure to role of L &D RN outside of hospital setting Qualified for Service Hours I hadn t realized how much responsibility & continuing education was required of L & D Nurses. It gave me the opportunity to experience care from the client point of view.

13 Maternal Transport Nurse Course: Safety on the Road October 2014 April 2015, 10 Sessions 62 Nurses Completed Course General Knowledge Gain Posttest & Evals Commentary: Continue to offer program. Being able to go in ambulance very helpful. Live patients added reality 10 Student Nurses Standardized Pts. Greater appreciation of role & responsibilities of RN/Transport& Enhanced learning of course content- both theory & clinical Participation as service learning project viewed as valuable

14 2016 Challenges & Success Secure new course site Meet with DON Chair at NLN Summit Meet with Undergraduate Program Director Incorporation into Senior Level Leadership Course Approval from College Continuing Education Application to DNA for 2016 Course held in April [2 sessions] for newly qualifying RNs; collaboration with Wesley College Department of Nursing- 2 student nurses & facility use 16 L & D Nurses, 4 Hospitals Positive Evaluations- RNs & SNs Plan for future
