1 NATIONAL NEWBORN HEALTH CONFERENCE OCTOBER About the Conference The National Newborn Health Conference is geared towards providing an opportunity where child survival champions will establish and renew partnerships and strategies that will help improve newborn survival in Nigeria through a highlevel advocacy platform that brings together national and international stakeholders from different sectors. The Goal of the conference is to build synergy and commitment towards ending preventable newborn deaths. The theme is Make Every Nigerian Newborn Count: Renew the momentum for newborn survival The specific conference objectives are: To review progress of newborn survival strategies in Nigeria over the last two decades To provide global technical updates on evidence-based newborn health interventions across the continuum of care To present progress report on roll out of life saving commodities for newborn health To share global Every Newborn Action Plan and launch the Nigerian ENAP. To promote partnership and secure stakeholders commitment towards ending preventable newborn deaths There had been series of pre-conference events ranging from the Ministerial Press Conference to the Saving 100k Babies Initiative. This first National Newborn Conference which starts with technical sessions on day 1 and ends with a High level Advocacy event with a call to action by Mr. President on day 2. The peak of this event is launching of the Nigeria s call to action to Save Newborn Lives by Mr. President. This forms an effective platform for the development of the Nigerian Every Newborn Action Plan (NENAP). The NENAP will be a domestication of the Global Every Newborn Action Plan and is being developed through a series of consultative bottleneck analysis sessions with newborn stakeholders. It articulates priority actions and commitment statements on how to cub preventable newborn deaths in Nigeria. Conference Partners. The conference is being sponsored by the Federal Government of Nigeria in partnership with Save the Children, UNICEF, WHO, CHAI, USAID-TSHIP, USAID- JHPIEGO, Well Being Foundation, Drug field pharmaceuticals, Daily needs ltd, Emzor pharmaceuticals and Nemel pharmaceuticals.
