1 NIGERIAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION SECRETARIAT REPORT FOR THE MONTH OF MAY,, 2010 HIGHLIGHTS The Secretariat activities for the month of May, 2010 are highlighted as follows: WEEK 1 The President, Dr. Omede Idris in company of Dr. Prosper Igboeli, Dr. (Mrs). Mma Wokocha, Dr. Henry Ewunonu attended the second edition of the Mothers day celebration organized by Sen. Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello (Iyani wura foundation) at the Sheraton Hotel, Abuja. The President, Dr. Omede Idris attended a workshop on Non Communicable disease in Nigeria Organised by the Nigerian Academy of Science. Letter of condolence was sent to Her Excellency, Hajia Turai Yar Adua wife of Late President Umaru Musa Yar Adua through the Katsina State NMA Executives NMA President, Dr. Omede Idris, Dr. Ben Anyene of PRRINN and the Country Representative of Save the Children Project during the second edition of the mothers day celebration held at the Sheraton Hotel, Abuja. Letter of congratulation received from NARD Letter of congratulation received from Atiku Abubakar Centre Letter of invitation for a conference on financial Crisis received from the World Medical Association. NMA President, Dr. Omede Idris having a chat with Sen. Iyabo Obasanjo Bello during the 2010 mothers day celebration.. Letter received from NMA Oyo State requesting to host December NEC meeting and AGM/AGC in April Letter of congratulation received from NMA Oyo State Branch. Letter of congratulation sent to the Hon. Minister of Health Prof. C.O. Onyebuchi Chukwu. NMA President having a chat with Dr. Lad Ojomo, Chairman House Committee on Health.

2 Letters request for courtesy visit sent to Ministry of Health, UNICEF, WHO, NHIS, Daily Trust Newspaper, Thisday Newspaper, NAFDAC, NACA, Family Health International, NTA, NLC, MDG, USAID, NSIWC, National Assembly, DFID, VON,NGO s and parastatals. WEEK 2 Press release commiserating with the family of Late President Umaru Musa Yar Adua was published in the Guardian Newspaper. Congratulatory Message to His Excellency, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan published in the Guardian News paper. NMA President, Dr. Omede Idris also paid a visit to the chief Physician to the President, Dr. Fortune Fibresima. Letter of Commendation was received from NMA Kwara State on NMA representative in the Board of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital. Letter from standards Organisation of Nigeria requesting for nomination and comment on draft standards for Ambulance received at the secretariat. Letter from the disciplinary tribunal of the MDCN on the enforcement of tribunal decision on Dr. Nobel Oguguo, Dr. Ademuyiwa.O. Adebiyi, Dr. Olusumade Adesegun Olumide and Dr. Thomas Adekoya-Cole. The President, Dr. Omede Idris paid a courtesy visit to the office of the Chief Physician to the President, Dr. Fortune Fibresima at the State House Clinic, Abuja. WEEK 3 Letter of congratulations received from NAGGMDP. Letter requesting for urgent amendment of CONMESS received from NAGGMDP. Letter received from the organizers of West African Health Exhibition and Conference 2010 congratulating the Association and reintroducing the event to the association. 3 WEEK 4 National Officers Committee met at the NMA National Secretariat, Abuja The NMA President, Dr. Omede Idris in company of the other members of the National Officers Committee paid a courtesy visit to Dr. Dogo Mohammed (Exe. Sec. NHIS), Dr. Alaba Lad Ojomo (Chairman House Committee on Health) and Dr. A.A. Ibrahim (Registrar, MDCN). Letter requesting for a meeting received from the Human Resources dept. of the Federal Ministry of Health inviting NMA for a meeting towards acquainting the new Minister on issues relating to CONMESS. Executive Secretary of NHIS, Dr. Dogo Mohammed making a presentation to the NMA President. Communiqué of NARD after its Ordinary General Meeting held in Abuja received at the National Secretariat. Notice of NARD 21 days strike ultimatum received at the secretariat Population and housing census priority table, housing and amenities table received at the secretariat. Cross Section of National Officers that made the visit to the NHIS National Headquarters. NMA National Officers Committee and NARD Executive met with the Hon. Minister of Health Prof. C.O.Onyebuchi Chukwu on issues relating to NARD intending strike action. ANNOUNCEMENT State AGM/Election: Going by constitutional provision, all state branches must hold their AGM within 3 months of National AGC. Only newly elected chairmen and secretaries will be invited to the August NEC. REQUESTS State Chairmen/Secretaries are please required to send a list of licensed Doctors with their

Send the names of Elected/Appointed Medical Practitioners to executive positions to the National Secretariat. AUDU SECRETARY-GENERAL NMA National officers during their courtesy visit to the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria at the council temporary office in Gwarimpa, Abuja. Sen. Dr. Iyabo Obasanjo Bello, Chairman Senate Committee on Health was also present to celebrate with the NMA at 50. Cross section of dignitaries during the Golden Jubilee Celebration of the NMA.

5 NMA State delegates were also present at the dinner commemorating the Golden Jubilee of the NMA NMA Past President Prof. Wole Atoyebi, Prof. S.N.C. Anyanwu, Editor NMJ and Sen. Dr. Nestor Nitunga from Burundi and Dr. Opoku-adusei from Ghana were also present to celebrate with the NMA. NMA Imm. Past President, Dr. Prosper Igboeli, welcomes Sen. Olorunnimbe Mamora to the Golden Jubilee Dinner. Cross Section of some distinguished members of the National Assembly also graced the Golden Jubilee Dinner. The Presence of the Representative of the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Dr. Louisa Okpe also added color to the occasion
