4 FOREW ORD In August 1975, 70 or so people associated with day hospitals and day centres in the Melbourne metropolitan area met at Mount Royal Hospital to discuss their aims and problems. As a result of that meeting, two committees were formed, one an advisory committee consisting of senior specialists in the geriatric field, the other a liaison committee made up of ten people of different disciplines working in a variety of establishments involved in day care for older people. This committee's aims were threefold: (i) (ii) (iii) to collect information about day hospitals and centres for older people; and to disseminate this information throughout the community, to work for the common good of older people. This directory is a result of the committee's activity, helped by the staff of Melbourne's geriatric hospitals, municipal councils, churches, and community health centres. I would like to thank all the people from these establishments who provided information, the Brotherhood of St Laurence for arranging the funding and printing, and Mrs. Betty Crisp who gave considerable help in the compiling of this directory. Lesley Falloon, Hon. Secretary, Liaison Committee for Day Hospitals and Day Centres, Mount Royal Hospital.
