1 Studley Road, Heidelberg, 3084 Haematology Registrar (clinical) Registrar Appointments for 2011 Name of Unit / Specialty: Head of Unit: CSU / Department: Haematology Cancer services Contact person for prospective applicants: Contact phone number for prospective applicants: Contact address for prospective applicants: (secretary) Andrew.grigg@austin.org.au Summary of position/unit: There are 2 clinical haematology registrar positions, one for inpatient care and one for outpatients and ward referrals; 6 months is spent on each rotation. Clinical haematology forms part of Cancer Services and works closely with Laboratory haematology ( 3 registrars ) to provide comprehensive care to haematology patients. The unit averages inpatients, there are 3 outpatient clinics each week, a Day Oncology centre and an Ambulatory day care ward. The workload of the unit has increased over the last few years and is expected to continue to do so with an expansion of the clinical trials programme. The unit treats a full spectrum of adult benign and malignant haematology and performs autologous stem cell transplants and apheresis. Clinical registrars are rostershare on call cover on a 1 in 5 basis ( weekdays and weekends which involves a Sunday ward round ) and are expected to do a ward round alternate Saturday mornings. On call work is limited to the care of haematology patients ( ie not oncology ). There is an active educational programme consisting of regular haematology seminars, journal presentations, protocol review meetings and case presentations. Registrars are expected to contribute to the academic life of the unit by active participation in these activities, will be encouraged and supported in writing peer reviewed papers and will be expected to provide mentoring to the haematology resident ( usually a third year post ) and teaching to medical students. The registrar will also be financially supported in attending at least one national or international conference per year. Details of any pre-requisites/preferences for candidates: Preference is given to those applicants with Part 1 FRACP who are committed to the combined FRACP/ FRCPA training program.
