1 Search for a stroke Stroke Care Unit and Stroke Rehabilitation Unit by state. Treatment of stroke in a stroke unit,{footnote}unit Trialists' Collaboration. Organised inpatient (stroke unit) care for stroke. The Cochrane Database of Systematic Revie ws 2001, Issue 3 Art : CD DOI: / CD {/footnote} {footnote}foley N, Salter K, Teasell R. Thrombolysis for acute ischaemic stroke. The Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews 2003, Issue 3. Art..: CD DOI: / CD {/footnote} {footnote}mielke O, Wardlaw J, Liu M. Thrombolysis (different doses, routes of administration and agents) for acute ischaemic stroke. Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews 2004, Issue 4 Art :CD000514DOI: / CD000514pub {/footnote} {footnote}the ATLANTIS ECASS and NINDS rt-pa Study Group Investigators. Association of outcome with early stroke treatment: Pooled analysis of ATLANTIS, ECASS, and NINDS rt-pa stroke trials. Lancet. 2004;363(9411): {/footnote} (an agent that breaks up clots) has been shown to save lives. The following table summarises the hospitals that have a stroke care unit for dedicated care of stroke patients, as well as those that provide tpa for acute stroke care in suitable patients. This is self-reported information provided by these hospitals to the National Stroke Foundation, and is correct as of February Some further information has been provided to the Stroke Society of Australasia by some hospitals. This information has been used to update the list (see below). Attending a hospital having a stroke unit does not guarantee that treatment will be provided in the stroke unit. Similarly, attending a hospital that is listed as providing treatment with tpa does not guarantee that treatment with tpa will be provided. Patients should check with their local hospital whether they have a stroke unit and whether treatment may be provided with tpa. In the future this page will also list hospitals that have a stroke rehabilitation unit. If the details for your hospital are incorrect, please provide updated details to the secretariat using the contact form. This will help keep this list as up to date as possible.
