2 Meaningful use is not possible without HL7 The Office of the National Coordinator for HIT in the US Department of Health and Human Services has selected the following HL7 standards to support meaningful use-stage 1: HL7 Version Submission of Lab Results to Public Health Agencies HL7 CDA/CCD for Patient Summary Record HL7 Version or Version for Submission to Public Health Agencies for Surveillance or Reporting and Submission to Immunization Registries

7 HL7 supports the sharing and enables the reuse of Orders and results for clinical lab, pathology, and imaging Family history Diagnosis and treatment of signs and symptoms Acute care pharmacy medications, dispensing and administration Patient care messages and clinical documents such as referrals Claims and reimbursements (outside the U.S.) Information required to submit claims and obtain reimbursement (in all member countries) Scheduling and managing visits and other events Clinical research Patient administration

The HL7 Educational Summit is a concentrated, two-day schedule of tutorials focused on HL7- specific topics such as Version 2, Version 3, implementation of CDA and general interest industry topics such as Electronic Health Record (EHR) and Vocabulary.
