USA : The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services released final "meaningful use" rules on how health care providers can access $27 billion in federal economic stimulus money by using electronic medical records. UK: To help improve the sharing of important information about you, the NHS in England is using an electronic record called the Summary Care Record (SCR) Europe: Electronic Medical Records has been established in several European countries for the last decade or so. However, establishment of EMRs in several countries has been difficult.. New Zealand: Independent review into Single EMR benefits 16 April

10 Where to now? 1. What should we as the NI community be doing to drive innovation and improvement in this space? 2. What could we be doing to engage more Nurses, Midwives & Consumers in the informatics space? 3. How do we ensure the Nursing Informatics community and clinical nurses and midwives are more engaged in this space and able to influence the National strategy? 16 April

11 Where to now? 4. Is the use of standardised Nursing Midwifery language in health records important and how do we better use this information to influence improved care for patients? 5. Europe, UK and USA appear to have very close links between the academic informatics and health leadership communities. How do we as a NI community influence and encourage opportunity for this to grow in Australasia? 16 April
