Eddy has particular expertise in Joint Commission and AOA accreditation and CMS surveys. Gayla J. Jackson, RN, BSN, has been a nurse manager for more than 20 years at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, MA, and is an AHAP advisory board member. She has served on Mt. Auburn s communication of critical results team and is a member of the hospital s medical safety steering committee and its medication reliability task force. In addition, Jackson played important roles in the Massachusetts Coalition for the Prevention of Medical Errors three-year project to improve patient safety. As an advisory committee member, she helped select two patient safety issues that the project would address; communication of critical test results was one of the issues chosen. Kurt Patton, MS, is a senior consultant for The Greeley Company, a division of HCPro, Inc., in Marblehead, MA. He brings more than 30 years of healthcare management and consulting experience to his work with hospitals and ambulatory care facilities across the country. Patton served as executive director of accreditation services at The Joint Commission for approximately eight years, until his retirement in December In this role, he worked with numerous types of accredited organizations that were seeking to be resurveyed, merging, evolving, or acquiring new services, as well as new organizations seeking to become accredited. Jean S. Clark, RHIA, is director of health information services at Roper Saint Francis Healthcare in Charleston, SC, and is an AHAP advisory board member. She has served on The Joint Commission standards review task force and has been on the expert panel for its information management chapter, which resulted in sweeping changes for the accreditation process that began in January She is a well-known author and speaker on topics related to accreditation and has published two best-selling books from HCPro: Information Management: The Compliance Guide to the JCAHO Standards, Fifth Edition and Ongoing Records Review: A Guide to JCAHO Compliance and Best Practice, Fourth Edition. Jodi L. Eisenberg, MHA, CPHQ, CPMSM, is the program manager for accreditation and clinical compliance at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago and is the chair of the AHAP advisory board. She has more than 16 years of experience in healthcare administration. In her current role, she is responsible for leading a full range of The Joint Commission s and other accreditation and regulatory compliance activities to promote a state of constant survey readiness. In addition, Eisenberg serves as an editorial advisor for Briefings on The Joint Commission, published by HCPro, Inc., and has participated in several audioconferences related to accreditation.

5 ditation Professionals Conference Preparing for the 2009 MS.1.20 changes The Joint Commission has approved plans to revise MS.1.20, which addresses medical staff policies, procedures, rules and regulations, and bylaws. These revisions will require extensive review of policies and procedures for many hospitals, as much of the information located there will need to migrate to hospital bylaws. While the change does not go into effect until 2009, this is expected to be a time-consuming process. This session will provide participants with useful solutions in addressing this important topic.
