Narcan Training Chelsea Watry from the Aids Resource Center (ARCW) provided Narcan training: How Narcan works in the brain

2 What are the opiate receptors and how Narcan works on these receptors Steps to administering o Check for response o Call 911 o Rescue breathing pinch nose and give two deep breaths o Administer Narcan nasal spray Each person attending received a sample dose of Narcan nasal spray. 5. Sustainability Update Rotary grant was used to cover the costs of Peers with Purpose training held in February and included the trainer stipend, t-shirts for peers and wristbands to distribute to 7 th graders. A $500 stipend for Latino Information Day, May 18 th was received to cover the cost of WAPD officer for drug collection, promotoras translation and the purchase of a feather flag to be used in May and at future events. The second $2000 stipend for the CADCA grant will be invoiced in April. 6. Youth Report Julian Simmerman from WA Central provided an update from the peers training and future presentations. All schools are planning for April Alcohol Awareness Month. 7. Updates Light and Unite Red (LUR), January 22-26, 2018, initiatives update: Proclamations from the city of WA and Village of WM PSAs and Coalition prezi broadcast on WA city channel Announcements read at Lane Intermediate School Interactive activities at high schools (Central and Hale) using Drug Facts Week and LUR giveaways Article about youth LUR activities posted on school district Facebook and webpage Youth from all four high schools created haikus April alcohol awareness month posters were distributed to the group for posting in the community. Also distributed were the posters for the WAPD drop box and Deterra bags. Deyana Petrick shared the upcoming CAAD events. Don Falk and Marlene Wagner were the recipients of the medication lock box drawing. Julian Simmerman and Maggie Keeler were the recipients of the Antigua gift cards drawing. 8. Youth Updates Students from Shared Journeys shared their activities and initiatives throughout the school year, including sharing information at the West Allis Health Department, presenting to incoming 9 th grade students about the negative impact of risky behavior and the West Allis Library display for April as Alcohol Awareness Month. A PowerPoint was also shown highlighting the activities and initiatives of the students from WA Central - HOPE (Helping Others through Prevention Education) WAWM Learning Center - Phoenix Experience Nathan Hale High School - Peers with Purpose Shared Journeys These included Peers with Purpose presentations in the 7 th grade classrooms Red Ribbon Week and Drug Facts Week Rotary presentation Impact Day Volunteering at community events such as the Latino Health Fair, CAAD events and Safe and Sober programs 6. Sustainability Update CADCA grant update three additional $2,000 stipends will be received in 2018 PFS grant update will again apply to cover costs of Senior Safety Talks The Coalition continues to explore grant, foundation and other options for sustainability. 7. Updates Community events CAAD o Tuesday in the Park 6/19 Super Heroes night- Color Guard will make an appearance 6/26 PJ Party
