4 What we do 1. We inspire Aucklanders to design and lead initiatives that make our communities great. 2. We connect with individuals, groups and communities so amazing things get done. 3. We support great ideas so that they have the best chance of succeeding.

8 Community Empowerment Unit (CEU) Delivering on: ECA Hub Specialist, technical and operational focus Local Board Plans Regional programmes The Auckland Plan Community aspirations The Māori Responsiveness Plan Strategic Brokerage Tailored to local boards
9 Strategic brokers Each local board has a strategic community broker; 17 have a full-time person; 4 have a half-time person. Their role includes: Being a key point of contact for communities Understanding local community aspirations Creating connections and opportunities across and with communities Connecting community and local board to resources and expertise within council
10 Operations team This team supports council and community to deliver on the empowered communities approach by: providing specialist advice applying community development practice, tools and techniques giving practical support looking for ECA opportunities across council
11 Practice team The practice team supports the delivery of the ECA by: building effective ways of working and creating relevant tools providing learning and skills development opportunities documenting and evaluating ECA practice and outcomes promoting a barrier busting culture within Auckland Council
12 Other teams in the CEU The Community Contracts team delivers four programmes funded by central government agencies. The Youth Connections team supports positive youth employment outcomes.
13 Otara-Papatoetoe Local Board CEU Work Programme 2016/17 Inclusion and Equity Identify and create opportunities for local communities to learn about the different cultures and ways of living that exist in their midst (i.e. ethnicities, contexts, faiths, interests, visions) and to appreciate how these can contribute to community health, prosperity, aroha, cohesion, learning and resilience
