2 About The Child and Youth Finance Movement The Child and Youth Finance Movement is a global stakeholder network dedicated to transforming young people around the world into empowered economic citizens. It works to ensure that every young person has a savings account and has the knowledge and skills to make the choices that will better their lives and communities. Since its inception in 2011, partners in the Child and Youth Finance Movement have provided over 36 million children and youth with access to economic citizenship education (ECE) and/or a savings account. Child and Youth Finance International (CYFI) is the global secretariat for the CYF Movement and is based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The Child and Youth Finance Movement brings together organizations and individuals from multiple sectors and countries. This includes governments, financial institutions, NGOs and children s rights advocates, academics and many more. All are united in the goals of the Child and Youth Finance Movement. The main goal of the Movement is that 100 million children and youth have access to Economic Citizenship Education and appropriate financial products by the end of The Movement s Roadmap Through a consultative process with various experts, CYFI created a strategic roadmap to guide the Movement towards fulfilling its main goal and achieving its mission. The core focus areas of the roadmap reflect the Movement s combined macro and micro level priorities: building the necessary financial knowledge and skills on an individual level while reshaping financial, regulatory and educational systems at the macro level. The focus areas and the goals of each focus area are as follows: About the 4th Child & Youth Finance International Regional Meeting for Africa Bringing Policy Makers, Practitioners and Young People together for Action and Impact! The Meeting The 4th CYFI Regional Meeting for Africa will be held in the Ghanaian capital from November, 2015 at the Accra International Conference Center (AICC). The meeting will be jointly organized by the Child & Youth Finance Secretariat, Microfinance and Small Loans Center (MASLOC) and the Youth Enterprise Support (YES). It will bring together some of Africa s leading experts, researchers, business leaders, entrepreneurs, government representatives, youth representatives, as well as national and international NGOs to discuss Financial Inclusion, Entrepreneurship and Economic Citizenship for children and youth. 2 4th CYFI Regional Meeting for Africa

3 The Youth Summit The first day of the 4th CYFI Regional Meeting for Africa will center around a Youth Summit. The Summit will focus mainly on creating an enabling environment for the growth of youth enterprises. It will involve workshops and plenary sessions that will define specific challenges to young entrepreneurs in Africa, and identify innovative practices that can help address these challenges. Around 100 youngsters are expected to attend the Youth Summit. The will be made up of: Young entrepreneurs from the region Members of the CYFI Youth Entrepreneurship (Ye!) Community Alumni participants from previous CYFI Global Youth Summits and Regional Youth Meetings for Africa Youngsters actively furthering financial education and inclusion in their respective countries Representatives of youth organizations in the region Ye! Pitching Event The Meeting will see the launch of Ye! Community in Africa. The Ye! Community is CYFI s global platform for youth entrepreneur aged between 16 and 30 years. It provides a gallery of country guides, an online community for young entrepreneurs to connect, a coaching program to pair entrepreneurs with experienced professionals, and funding opportunities. An integral part of this year s meeting will be Ye! Pitching Event for young entrepreneurs. Eight young entrepreneurs will be given the opportunity to market their businesses to potential investors, financial service providers and business leaders. Attendees The Meeting will welcome senior and high-ranking members from the following types of institutions: Financial authorities (national, regional, international) Financial institutions (global & local) Financial education service providers Governmental sector representatives (including Ministries of Finance and Education) Large corporations Foundations Leading researchers in the fields of financial inclusion, entrepreneurship and financial literacy Media Experts Technology Experts Multilateral and bilateral agencies Civil Society Organizations Public personalities Program Themes The Child and Youth Finance Movement has reached a milestone - the issue of financial inclusion is now a priority on the G20 Agenda for 2015, which makes this a crucial year for the efforts of partners in the CYFI Network to achieve our collective goal of reaching 100 million children and youth with financial services and Economic Citizenship Education by the end of The 4th Child & Youth Finance Regional Meeting for Africa will reflect this global call for action. To achieve its objectives and expected outcomes the Meeting is structured around three main themes: Innovate, Act, Impact! Innovate (November 23): Experience-sharing sessions initiated by partners, stakeholders and other experts to share best practices and learn from innovations across global sectors in the field of financial inclusion and Economic Citizenship Education. Act (November 23 and 24): Demonstrate new concrete projects which can be implemented, replicated and taken to scale. Impact (November 24): Create national and regional specific action plans to facilitate the economic citizenship ecosystem and shape a regional outreach plan for 2016 and beyond. 4th CYFI Regional Meeting for Africa 3

National and regional action plans created to extend the Child and Youth Finance Movement into 2016 and beyond. 6 Preparation Registration for the Regional Meeting for Africa All participants are expected to register online to attend the Meeting and join the sightseeing activities. Click here to access the registration page. Alternatively, copy the URL ( and paste in your browser to access the page. The deadline for registration is November 15, Visa Information Visas are required for all participants traveling to Accra, except for nationals of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). Participants coming to Accra should apply for their own visa prior to arrival in Accra. The visa may be obtained from a Ghanaian High Commission or Consulate abroad. Contact the Ghanaian High Commission in your country or click on this link to ensure that you obtain the specific entry requirement. Participants are advised to submit their visa requests four weeks before their travel date. A valid yellow fever vaccination certificate is necessary. Travel Documents Please make sure not to forget the formal invitation letters (where applicable), your hotel booking and all other documents provided to you by the CYFI Secretariat. If you have any questions, please contact Akwasi (akwasi@childfinance.org) or Nana (estawiah@gmail.com). Accommodation Delegates are responsible for their accommodation. However, considering that Accra hosts many business and tourist activities, the Local Organising Committee (LOC) will negotiate for discount rooms for all participants with selected partnering hotels. The hotels and their rates will be soon published on this website. Hotel/ Contact Person Type of Room Rate Delegates who would like to stay at one of the listed hotels can benefit from the discount rates. Please contact the hotels directly to make your reservations as soon as possible since there are very limited rooms available. Remember, early birds get the greatest offer! Arrival Kotoka International Airport, Accra CYFI and the LOC will arrange airport pickups at specified times. The specific dates and times for the shuttle will soon be available online. When you arrive at the airport please proceed through immigration, collect your luggage and then exit the luggage claim area into the arrivals hall. There will be CYFI/MASLOC hosts holding Child and Youth Finance signs at the arrival hall to direct you to the the shuttle. If you arrive outside of these times, we suggest that you make use of the taxi services at the airport. Delegates can also arrange for private airport pickups with their hotels. Please check with your hotel if the service is available. All our partnering hotels will offer shuttle services on request. For safety reasons, we recommend that participants only use taxis which are authorized by the airport or arrange for airport pickups with their hotels. Kindly communicate your flight itinerary well in advance to the Child and Youth Finance Secretariat. Currency and Payment The local currency in Ghana is the Ghana cedi (GhC). Banknotes are in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20, and 50 cedis, while coins are in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20 and 50 pesewas. 7 Foreign exchange facilities are available at the airport and inside the city. Banking hours are usually from 09:00 16:00 Mondays to Fridays. Most large commercial banks have ATMs located outside. The most widely accepted credit cards are Visa and MasterCard. Cards can be used for payment at major hotels and shops, although this can be risky as credit card fraud is common. The preferred currencies to bring are US dollars ($), British pounds ( ) and Euro ( ). For exchange rates, please visit the Bank of Ghana website. Dress Code and Weather The dress code for the Meeting is business casual. However, we welcome participant to dress in their national or local attaire to reflect the rich national and cultural diversity of Africa. The month of November is characterized by essentially constant daily high temperatures, with daily highs around 32 C throughout the month, exceeding 33 C or dropping below 30 C only one day in ten. Material Exhibition During the Meeting, an area for exhibition will available to organizations interested in displaying some of their materials. Meals Meals will be provided for participants during the Meeting. Departure Airport drop-off The Local Organising Committee will arrange airport drop-off shuttles to the Kotoka International Airport at specified times. 8 Logistics Note Conference Venue & Dates Where Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), Accra- Ghana When November 23-25, 2015 General Information about Accra, Ghana Accra is the political capital and socio-economic nerve center of Ghana. The city provides a wide range of facilities and services for both business and holiday tourists. Its architecture ranges from traditional African buildings to large, elegant colonial houses and modern high-rise blocks. Traditionally home to the Ga people, Accra has a sizeable expatriate and established foreign community from the United States, Europe, Lebanon and India as well as more recent immigrants from Mali, Niger and Nigeria. It is a city full of character. It has a warm feeling and is considered one of the friendliest and safest cities in Africa. Public transport consists of buses and trotros (minibuses). Alternatively there are taxis, which are very affordable and safe. Electric supply in Ghana is volt. Three pin electric outlet are used almost everywhere in Accra. Sightseeing Given the beauty and historical significance of Livingstone, the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) felt it only fitting to arrange a sightseeing event for Delegates on Wednesday, November 25, The Black Star Square The Black Star Square, also known as Independence Square, is the second-largest city square in the world after Tiananmen Square in China. The Square has monuments to Ghana's independence struggle, including the Independence Arch, Black Star Gate, and the Liberation Day Monument. It also hosts all major national public gatherings and national festivals, including the country s Independence Day celebrations. Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park and Mausoleum This is a national park erected in memory of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana s first president. The park is built on a former British polo field, where Nkrumah declared Ghana s independence in It consists of five acres of land and holds a museum tracing Nkrumah s life. There are personal items on display, but the centrepiece is the mausoleum, which is final resting place of Nkrumah and his wife. 8 4th CYFI Regional Meeting for Africa

9 The Center for National Culture The Centre for National Culture in Accra, Ghana, is better known simply as The Arts Centre. It is situated right next to the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park. It is the tourist heaven of Ghana. It has got everything from woven Kente cloth, wooden sculptures, earrings and other fashion accessories, the latest in African Attire fashion and arts and crafts from all over Ghana. There is so much to see that you will literally hyperventilate when you get there. WEB Du Bois Memorial Centre William Edward Burghard Du Bois was an African-American civil rights activist who became a citizen of Ghana in the 1960s. He was known as the Father of Pan-Africanism. The center, where he and his wife once lived, and where they are now buried, houses his personal library, a small museum with a handful of personal effects such as his graduation robes. The couple s mausoleum is surrounded by Asante stools, a seminar room, a restaurant, a gallery, an amphitheater and a research center for Pan-African history and culture.
