Accept and authorize the President of the Board to sign in original signatures six (6) copies of the Letter of Award from the California Department of Public Health in the amount of $599,232 for the Tuberculosis Local Assistance Base Award, a reduction of $98,587 from FY 09-10, and $43,050 for the Food, Shelter, Incentive and Enablers, for a total of $642,282 for the period July 1, 2010 through June 30, 20 II, to support tuberculosis (TB) prevention and control activities; and 2. Approve and authorize the Auditor-Controller to decrease appropriation and revenue in the amount of$98,587 as outlined in the attached Financial Recommendations. SUMMARY/ DISCUSSIONfFINDINGS: The Alameda County Public Health Department has been awarded the TB Local Assistance Base Award from the California Department of Public Health, Tuberculosis Control Branch in the amount of $599,232 and also awarded an allotment of up to $43,050 for food, shelter, incentive and enablers expenditures for the period July I, 2010 through June 30, Expenditures for the food, shelter, incentive and enablers allotment should enhance adherence, prevent homelessness, and allow the use of less restrictive alternatives that decrease or obviate the need for detention. This TB financial assistance fund will be used to support activities which address the highest priorities in TB control: Identifying and treating persons who have active TB and ensuring they complete appropriate therapy, and in exceptional cases, using confinement measures.

2 The Honorable Board of Supervisors Page Two of Two Finding and screening persons who have been in contact with TB patients to determine whether they have TB infection or disease, and providing them with appropriate treatment. Screening high-risk populations to detect persons who are infected with mycobacterium tuberculosis and could benefit from therapy to prevent the infection from progressing to TB disease. FINANCING: The funding for this award is included in the FY Adopted Budget; however, budget adjustments are necessary to reflect the $98,587 reduction in the grant award received; therefore changes in appropriation and revenue are necessary.
