2 Federal Highway/Rail Crossing Safety Eligible projects are railroad crossings, for any public road entity and railroad Applications due July 1 Railroad or Road Owner apply 10% non-federal match required on projects $4 Million annual funding Information also available online at:

3 Sign Replacement Program for Cities & Counties Replace damaged, obsolete or substandard signs and signposts $10,000 per county per year (can apply one year after last grant approval) $5,000 of signs and signposts per city per year First come, first served basis All eligible applicants are encouraged to apply even if they have already participated in a similar program in the past

4 County or Urban - State Traffic Engineering Program (C-STEP) & (U-STEP) Solve traffic operation and safety problems on rural primary roads County or City must administer the project Spot or Linear Improvements 55% State share 45% Local Match Contact your DOT District Engineer for additional information.

5 HSIP Secondary Program (HSIP S) MAP-21 Federal Highway Bill, continued with FAST Act No dedicated set aside for HRRR program under HSIP core program It is up to state s discretion to have a HRRR program Allocate $2 million from the HSIP funds for HSIP Secondary program Counties interested in participating will need to submit a letter of interest. TAS and an evaluation team will then consult with the counties to discuss the proposed project concept, including scope and budget. It emphasizes reducing crashes related to rural road lane departures, through projects in the $10,000 per mile cost range with a systemic approach. 7 Traffic Safety Improvement Program Site Specific Projects (TSIP) Includes construction projects to improve traffic safety and operations Annual funding varies, $6 million generally, increasing with gas tax $500,000 limit per project Traffic Control Device Projects For the purchase of traffic control device materials Annual funding is $500,000 Traffic Safety Studies Includes transportation safety research, studies, and public information programs Annual funding is $500,000 Application Deadline is August 15 program revamped!

8 Traffic Engineering Assistance Program Who is eligible to request funding? Iowa cities and counties without the resources of a staff traffic engineer typically cities with populations less than 35,000 Safety studies and Roundabout reviews Qualifications for funding (TEAP) No local match is required. However, the applicant will be required to assist the consultant with data collection, if needed (as-built plans, traffic counts, street maps, crash reports, etc.) Type of submittal required Letter of request explaining the problem must be sent to the appropriate district engineer Application amount TEAP will fund up to 100 hours of consultant time $125,000 total in this fund

9 Horizontal Curve Sign Program Program is Ending! Replaced with the Sign Replacement Program discussed earlier

10 Overhead Beacon Replacement Program Replaces overhead beacons with stop sign mounted beacons All public agencies may request funding for use on any public road The overhead beacons would be replaced with stop sign mounted flashing red lights for the side road and advance warning signs with yellow flashing lights for the main road. An application form must be submitted and include a quote from a supplier of the beacons desired, location of the intersection where the beacons are planned to be replaced, and a timeline for the replacement 10

12 Pedestrian Curb Ramp Construction Intended to assist cities with ADA compliance The city must design and administer the project Must be municipal extension of Primary Highway Curb ramps must meet ADA standards 55% State share/45% Local Match Submit letter of request Up to $250,000 per city, per year
