3 TOWN OF GREATER NAPANEE MUNICIPAL ARTS & CULTURE ADVISORY COMMITTEE Minutes of Meeting Held August 15, 2017 at 5:00 PM Committee Room, Town Hall, 124 John St., Napanee PRESENT: Jim Barber, Tim Nimigan, Janine Murray, Linda Warner, Ellena Fleury, and Kathy Medd OTHERS PRESENT: Lyndsay Tee, Economic Development Coordinator, James Timlin, General Manager Community & Corporate Services CALL TO ORDER ADOPTION OF AGENDA RESOLUTION #: That the agenda of the Municipal Arts & Culture Advisory Committee meeting dated Tuesday, August 15, 2017 be hereby adopted. ADOPTION OF MINUTES RESOLUTION #: It is noted that: the Minutes of the Municipal Arts & Culture Advisory Committee dated Tuesday, May 16, 2017 were misplaced and not found; there was no Municipal Arts & Culture Advisory Committee meeting held in July, As a result, the Committee is asked to approve the Tuesday, June 20, 2017 meeting Minutes at the Tuesday, August 20, 2017 meeting. RESOLUTION # That the minutes of the Municipal Arts & Culture Advisory Committee meeting dated Tuesday, June 20, 2017 are hereby approved. ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION Quinte Arts Council The committee agreed that we need to have a stronger focus on utilizing the benefits of the Quinte Arts Council. It was suggested that a subcommittee be formed to review the benefits of being a member and to learn what opportunities we should be taking advantage of. ACTION: To create a subcommittee to review the Quinte Arts Council and brainstorm ways for the committee to better utilize our yearly membership. Janine Murray suggested that the committee look into advertising opportunities with the Watershed Magazine. Municipal Arts & Culture Advisory Committee - Tuesday, Augus... Page 3 of 11 Page 1 of 4
4 MUNICIPAL ARTS & CULTURE ADVISORY COMMITTEE - August 15, 2017 Minutes ACTION: Kathy Medd volunteered to look into pricing and bring the information forward at the September meeting. Committee Structure Jim Barber expressed the need to have a policy in place to monitor meeting attendance. Discussion took place regarding the current level of support the committee is receiving from the arts community. It was suggested that we, as a committee, need to better communicate the committee's responsibilities. It was agreed that this item will be moved to the September 2017 meeting for continued discussion. SUBCOMMITTEE UPDATES "Pallet"able Art Project Tim Nimigan reviewed the newly submitted designs seeking approval to be entered into the program. Motion: That Stephen Huza's additional four designs be approved by the committee and included in the binder for potential sponsorship. Motioned by: Tim Nimigan Seconded by: Ellena Fleury Carried. Motion: That Elaine Taranu's design be approved by the committee and included in the binder for potential sponsorship. Motioned by: Tim Nimigan Seconded by: Kathy Medd Carried. Artist, Debbie Nimigan, was approached to design a pallet as a tribute to a sponsors late husband. The design which has been approved by the sponsor was reviewed by the committee. Motion: That Debbie Nimigan's design be approved by the committee and that she be approved to begin painting as the sponsor has already given approval. Motioned by: Ellena Fleury Seconded by: Linda Warner Carried. It is noted that a location for Debbie's pallet has not been determined at this time. Tim Nimigan informed the committee that he will be approaching potential sponsors to determine their level of interest. It is noted that a sponsor is still needed for Peggy Collin's pallet which is currently being painted. Municipal Arts & Culture Advisory Committee - Tuesday, Augus... Page 4 of 11 Page 2 of 4
5 MUNICIPAL ARTS & CULTURE ADVISORY COMMITTEE - August 15, 2017 Minutes Tim explained that he will be creating a rack card to promote the program and hopes to have it created in time for Culture Days on Saturday, September 30, Municipal Arts & Culture Awards The Committee reviewed the awards process and procedures, analyzed the submitted nomination forms, and discussed candidates. A vote was held to determine the winner within each category. To ensure winners remain anonymous, a listing of the categories and winners will be provided to Council for approval during Closed Session in September. The Committee will aim to host the awards presentation at the last Council meeting in September or during the first meeting in October pending availability. Committee Social Planning No discussion took place. This will be moved to the September agenda. Culture Days The next subcommittee meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, August 22, Ellena explained that the event will be scaled back in comparison to previous years due to a lack of uptake. It was recommended that all parties, people and volunteers involved in planning Culture Days, the Hometown Market and the Scarecrow Festival meet before the event to ensure everyone is well informed of the days schedule and details. Music by the River The Music by the River program has been very successful this summer with positive feedback from attendees. The last date of the season is Sunday, August 27, It has come to the attention of the Music by the River subcommittee that Garrett Fest is scheduled to take place the same day and time. To honor Garret and support the event, donations collected at the August 27th Music by the River concert will be given to Garrett Fest. 8 Youth 2 Youth Summit - For Information Page 8 of 11 The Youth-2-Youth Summit When: September 29: 9-4:30 pm (It's a high school PA day!) Where: Tyendinaga Township Recreation Hall Who: Youth ages What is it?: This free, one day summit aims to connect youth in Hastings, Prince Edward and Lennox & Addington Counties as well as Belleville and Quinte West. Our keynote speaker, Ryan Porter will be providing a youth-focused presentation and workshop to start off the event. In the afternoon, youth will participate in engaging discussions and networking with peers, professionals, and community leaders regarding local issues and topics of interest. There will also be pizza, subs and other free snacks! Why: We aim to create positive movements in our communities and encourage youth leadership. Youth can earn a certificate that staff will sign at the summit that they can put directly on their resume. We will also be providing signed letters acknowledging community volunteer hours for all attendees. Youth can make connections and network with local peers and professionals. There will be a photo booth for professional LinkedIn profile pictures to make your profile stand out! A snapchat filter will also be made to showcase your participation in the event. Transportation: There will be transportation options provided for youth in Bancroft, Madoc, Belleville as well as Prince Edward County. More information to come regarding specific locations for pick-ups and drop-offs.
