I was both astounded and delighted that many of our clients and contacts made contact with me personally to say well done. We hope that you find our second edition an interesting read also. This year could be our biggest ever with approximately 4m of work already secured with our existing clients. This means our team is growing steadily with both progression through the ranks of our own home grown talent, and the addition of new talent to the team. Mark Savage, Lee Hewitt and Andrew Hewitt have joined as approved electricians and are already making a difference on site. Our commitment to apprentice recruitment and training continues with school leaver Shay Anderson joining us. It will be a delight to watch him develop, with support from his team members and the college, into a fine electrician for McNally & Thompson is the year we are going for accreditation to the ISO 9000 Quality Standard. Although we already have many systems and processes in-house to deliver the quality of work that we do, we thought it about time to get those benchmarked against a widely recognised standard. 2 Recently Completed Contracts Project Name Seafarers Way (The Old Orphanage) Hendon, Sunderland Project Client Keepmoat Project Overview New build 39 extra care apartment facility with communal areas & facilities. Plus refurbishment of an existing listed building to provide high quality rentable office space Project Name Department For Education (DfE) Darlington Project Client Willmott Dixon Project Overview 4 storey office building for the department of education. Roof top exposed plant area. External car parks and access road lighting. Typical office environment with full automatic lighting system, floor boxes served by under floor busbar and heavily serviced with data & comms Fast track programme which was bettered by 6 weeks mainly due to the onsite teams coordination & communication. The project came with two specifications both of which we had to satisfy. Town centre location adjacent a busy live building. 2 Project Name The Closes Redcar Keepmoat Project Client Project Overview An extra care facility consisting of 44 no. apartments with communal spaces and 18 no. bungalows on site. Works consisted of general lighting, power, fire alarms, warden call, door entry and automatic smoke ventilation and extract systems

Part of doing business with us, is that we proactively offer solutions to problems and are answering the questions being asked. Q In terms of electrical services and installations, is there anything special we can consider for Extra Care schemes? A Yes, many things, but let us look specifically at Assistive Technology Extra Care accommodation catering for different personal needs such as dementia require technology to help manage potential risks in and around the home for a secure environment. Some of the smart technologies we are currently installing are: Auto sensing, for example when the resident gets out of bed during the night and turning on their bathroom light automatically. Contrasting coloured bezels around light switch for ease of identification from the general surroundings Apartments with locking devices to isolate the oven and hob if the resident becomes too ill to use them safely Wanderguard systems on main entrance doors to schemes for the safety of vulnerable residents Electrical Industry News 17th Edition Amendment Number 3 is now in Further changes to the 17th edition wiring regulations came into effect recently, so we are examining these in closer detail and also discussing the potential further changes that could take place in the near future. The evolution of wiring regulations have come a long way with the 1st wiring regulations introduced in 1882, consisting of only 4 pages and contained 21 regulations. 3

CONTINUALLY INVESTING IN OUR DEVELOPMENT TO ASSIST OUR CLIENTS We have invested in extending our scope of works to include more renewable energy options. We have once again up-skilled some of our team members in the following areas so that our clients and end users can benefit. Solar Photovoltaics PV Design & Application We are now Installation and Maintenance of PV Systems Logic accredited building upon current electrical knowledge and MCS accreditation in order to extend our scope and strengthen the team currently working on solar photovoltaics. We underwent an intensive course which gave us a detailed and in depth understanding of photovoltaic system planning and installations to meet specialist needs of an ever growing industry. DC Commissioning This training provided our Engineers with the correct DC knowledge and experience to commission grid connected PV systems in line with MCS requirements. Apprentices Our latest apprentice Shay Anderson, is our 13th apprentice, in 12 years. That s good going, and we are sure he will be our very lucky number 13. 4

5 Charity & Community Events Doing our bit for Charity Wondering what has happened since our last newsletter?... Quite a bit actually! Great North Run 7th September 2014 Gary Robson ran an excellent time of 1:50 in this year s GNR for the 4th year running and all for our chosen charity The Foundation of Light. He has raised a total of Well Done Gary and thank you to all of you that Kindly donated. Half-Time SAFC We are delighted to have backed the SAFC match day lottery this season and again teamed up with the Foundation of Light for the Grand in your hand. We signed up to sponsor the Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur & Swansea City games with the proceeds from the partnership going towards supporting projects with young people and families in the local community. You may have noticed the McNally and Thompson logo on the back of the lottery tickets if you were at one of these games. CLAY PIGEON SHOOT A great afternoon with some clients in September this proved to be a very enjoyable and competitive afternoon. The results were 3rd place was Fred Hood (M&T), 2nd place was Ray Nugent (Willmott Dixon) and the winner was Jonathan Grant (Willmott Dixon). It was so enjoyable we will definitely be doing this again. 5-A-SIDE FOOTBALL On 8th December some of our team took part in a thrilling 5-a-side Football Tournament with Constructing Excellence North East Generation 4 change North East in conjunction with CIBSE Young Engineers Network at Soccerworld, Newcastle. It was hotly contested including group stages, semifinals and final. Our Team Bright Sparks did a good job getting to semi-final stage winning 4 games along the way, only to be narrowly beaten by the eventual winners Artis Consulting. As this was their first ever match they really did us proud. Well Done to Vince Lilley, Bailey Doyle, Jamie Marshall, Jack Wright, Stephen Harrison, Andrew (The Cat) Courtney and Steve Urwin. M&T LOTTERY For many of our contacts this year we sent out National Lotto tickets for the Christmas draw. Everyone thanked us for the opportunity of running away from the industry. Sadly there were no lucky winners. Good job really, we need all hands on deck for this upsurge in work coming through! CHRISTMAS FUN SIDE We sent out an alternative Christmas Wishes video on . We do hope you had a little giggle to yourself. 5

Approved Electrician/Inspector & Tester/Site Supervisor 3. Please tell me about your most rewarding, satisfying experience or your proudest moment, since you joined the Company. That would have to be completion of projects we as a team complete, then receiving great feedback from the clients involved. 4. Before working here, what was the most unusual or interesting job you ve ever had? Graphic Designer 5. Are you married? Do you have kids? What do you enjoy doing with your family? I am married with 3 kids. Enjoy just being there with them. 6. Who do you most admire & why? My parents for bringing me up and teaching/putting up with so much. 7. What are your hobbies? 7 Our Celebrations An sent by the caretaker for Meadowfield House read: Kyoob Consultants ed Fred regarding Titan House saying Really impressed with the outcome, service, looks good and was well coordinated. Job well done, thanks. Good work by our site team Carl Rankin and Alan Winn. Two contractors from McNally and Thompson attended Meadowfield House to wire in a new tea boiler in the function room. It has to be stated that the professionalism shown by the two employees (Steve Crone and Bailey Doyle) was above reproach, the can do approach to a very intricate installation was a credit to their company and their training. It is nice to acknowledge a job very well done. Well done to our site team members Steve Crone and Bailey Doyle. AWARDED FOR SITE SAFETY PERFORMANCE On Willmott Dixon s DFE Darlington Site their September Safety League was won by our Supervisor Gary Robson and his team Jamie Marshall and Scott Pattison. WDC monitors every subcontractors HSE performance on a daily / weekly basis and effectively scores them accordingly. It includes all operatives approach to their own safety, the use of PPE and the use of the correct access equipment. Supervisors get monitored for the performance of all operatives & the sub-contractors that that supervisor maybe responsible for. Also weekly site returns including the inspection of access equipment etc. and the carrying out of tool box talks. The subcontractor is also scored for a visiting manager carrying out a site inspection once a month i.e. our Project Engineer Dave Wealleans was inspecting the site and reporting it to WDC once a month. 7

8 How are we doing... On Site Some of you, as client representatives and consultants, will have completed our feedback questionnaires following the completion of a project. We value each score and comment made, so thank you for taking the time to do that. Labour on site very good, tradespeople who turn out a very good job Ash Street Good set of operatives who take their time to produce a good quality product, helpfulness of contracts manager in answering queries swiftly and working as team to achieve our goals Seafarers Way Your Feedback Counts After receiving a score of 7 on one of our projects, we followed it up with our client to be clear on the details and took immediate action to make sure we did better for all our clients in this area in the future. Competition Update from Switched On Edition 1 We asked you how many extra care accommodation projects had we been involved in building? The correct answer was 42. And the bottle of fizz went to Daren Huntingdon, one of our very own approved electricians who was the closest by saying 47 projects. Well done Daren. Hope you enjoyed it.
