With Aderly s constantly rising results, 2007 was a year of consolidation, but also of regeneration. By reinforcing its actions, especially in sectors of excellence, Aderly has shown its commitment to supporting its partnerships with Lyon s competitive clusters. In this issue, you will learn about Aderly s close collaboration with the international cluster, Axelera, dedicated to the Chemicals- Environment sector. 2 02 Lyon Initiatives ENVIRONMENT The central importance of Lyon's "green" business properties Greater Lyon was once again present at the annual MIPIM (International Market for Property Professionals), which took place in March at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes. Lyon unveiled a dynamic property offer with projects increasingly centered around the issues of sustainable development and ecological business properties. Buildings account for 40% of France's energy consumption and 25% of the country's greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, any initiative targeting this sector can have a significant impact on the environment. Thanks to Lyon's commitment to sustainable development, the city is now considered a European benchmark in this domain. International events in Lyon: Pollutec (environmental equipment, technologies and services for industry and local authorities): France s largest environmental exhibition; held in Lyon every 2 years, 67,000 visitors in 2006, and 2,500 exhibitors from more than 30 countries. The Renewable Energy Exhibition: France s premier exhibition for the sector, held in Lyon every 2 years, with 20,000 visitors. ILENA PARK SERL - B.MATEO Important "green" projects Since 2005, every urban project in the Lyon region has been reviewed according to the AEU (Environmental Approach to Town Planning), whose goal is to reconcile urban development with environmental concerns. At the same time, guidelines regarding the environmental quality of new France's very first environmental skills cluster, named "Pôle Solère", is planned for completion by April 2009 in housing developments have been established by Greater Lyon's Local Energy Agency, with methodological support from ADEME (Environmental and Energy Management Agency), with the goal of developing ecologically friendly properties. 3 Lyon Initiatives 03 The Carré de Soie: between town and country A future business, leisure and service district spanning 240 hectares, the Carré de Soie will boast more than 180,000 square meters of office space, to be completed between , and 310,000 square meters by 2020, providing companies with the opportunity to set up operations in a tertiary cluster of European dimensions. The site is located in Lyon's eastern suburbs of Villeurbanne and Vaulx-en-Velin, and will benefit from the area's exceptional transportation connections, with priority being given to cleaner transportation (metro, tramway, bikes, etc.). The Carré de Soie borders Miribel Jonage Park, one of Europe's largest peri-urban parks, covering 2,200 hectares, with 350 hectares of lakes/ ponds, as well as the Jonage Canal, whose banks are to be redeveloped. By 2009, 40 kilometers of clean transportation routes will link the canal banks with the center of Lyon. THE CARRÉ DE SOIE Altarea To find out more: (Why Move to Lyon? > Carré de Soie) Lyon Confluence: a district built around environmental quality Launched in 2003 to encourage energy management and diversity in large-scale urban development projects, the European Concerto program is designed to promote energy efficiency and the use of renewable energies, as well as the redistribution of the resulting environmental, economic and social benefits. In 2004, the program awarded the Lyon Confluence project first place in its competition for the housing and offices at the Place Nautique marina. Indeed, the major goal of this 150-hectare area, located in the heart of Lyon, is to transform industrial wastelands by applying sustainable development standards. 4 04 Lyon Initiatives ENVIRONMENT Axelera: a dynamic cluster with international and environmental ambitions Success Story The German-based companies AS Solar and SMA specialize in the renewable-energy sector - in particular, the manufacture and distribution of photovoltaic installations. Convinced of Greater Lyon's dynamics, thanks to its three specialized clusters (Axelera, Tenerrdis and Eco-Energies), the two companies chose Lyon and Aderly in 2007 to set up their subsidiaries. Evolving within a sector which is rapidly expanding, AS Solar and SMA have high ambitions for further growth and have already announced their plans to strengthen their Lyon-based teams in Less than a year after it opened its 300 square-meter office in Décines, AS Solar employs seven people and plans to increase its staff to 12 by the end of This development is due in particular to the growth in France's solarenergy sector (+200% between 2006 and 2007), as well as the fact that the company has positioned itself as a multi-brand distributor, providing its customers with a large choice of products. As for SMA France, the company has enjoyed results beyond its initial expectations, recording a ten-fold increase in sales following its set-up at Lyon's Technology Park and boasting an additional two-fold increase since the first quarter of With a current staff of nine people, the group is looking to increase its personnel to 12 by the end of the year. The Director for France, Pierre Genin, recognizes the importance of a foreign company having a foothold in France, particularly in Lyon, which presents remarkable advantages. In addition to the presence of the principal actors in the solar energy business, he points to the city's ideal location at the crossroads of the main transportation routes, as well as its strong base of qualified workers, which allows for fast, targeted recruiting. The same goes for HaWi Renewable Energies, located at the Isle d'abeau site and currently searching for a new site in order to expand its operations. fr.hawi-energy.com The objective of the Axelera international competitive cluster is to combine chemistry and the environment and bring together its members around a shared vision: accelerating the transformation towards pioneering chemistry that integrates environmental management through "green design". This vision can result in the design of new, more sustainable products, cleaner manufacturing processes, R&D at the best international level, training and new work practices. With the support of various regional actors - in particular Aderly - Axelera's goal is to act as a showcase for the "chemistry of tomorrow" and to become the leading industrial and scientific cluster at the international level by Activity assessment for and perspectives for 2008 With regard to R&D, six projects have already been financed (two in and four in 2007) for a total amount of 49 million, and five new projects should be completed in Today, the cluster numbers 128 members, 59% of which are industrial companies, 33% research bodies, 4% training institutes and 4% institutional bodies. This initiative offers English companies the opportunity to develop their activities in partnership with members of the Lyon cluster. In 2008, Axelera's goal is to continue to develop. Continuing its collaboration with Aderly, the cluster will act as the agency's partner during missions focusing on environmental technology in Japan (in partnership with ERAI Tokyo), Canada and Quebec.

A large reserved area (3,000 hectares), allowing to develop diverse business parks suited to the specific needs of each company. Isle d'abeau is situated only 20 minutes from Lyon and 10 minutes from the Lyon-Saint Exupéry International Airport. TOP TICKET.S / PILIPILI (Free city magazine) Pilipili, based on a Japanese concept which has seen great success in Asia over the past seven years, is a "dual-media" consisting of a free city magazine and a web site with articles and special offers to help you get out more and make the most of your town. Using the concept of short reports, the two products pay particular attention to local businesses. Following its initial success in Rennes and Grenoble in September 2007, Artemis et Recruit (a subsidiary of TV channel TF1) has now decided to launch its magazine in four other large French cities. Find all the results, company profiles and 2007 actions (Publications) With Aderly's help locating offices, networking and recruiting, the Southeast Regional Division and the Lyon edition started working in April to put out its first issue in June The team in Lyon initially includes 15 employees and five professional photographers. The offices are located in the Part-Dieu business district. Aderly helps new businesses in Lyon to recruit workers: defining their needs, helping to create job profiles, identifying applicants thanks to an in-house ANPE employment office, contacting various HR networks, providing information on French employment law and on the skills available in the local market, and helping spouses locate work. Aderly's HR consultant helped Pilipili recruit for 15 positions: director of publishing, sales assistant and publishing assistants. 6 06 Businesses thrive in Lyon MAGNISENSE (Luxembourg - Design of magnetic markers for diagnostics) Magnisense, a diagnostics company that develops and markets magnetic immunoassays, has opened new laboratories and offices in Dardilly, near Lyon. This laboratory, dedicated to the development of proprietary biological assays for the diagnostics industry, will allow the company to directly and more rapidly perfect nextgeneration biological tests for its clients. Success Story The Dardilly team will develop tests for human and veterinary diagnostics, as well as for food safety and environmental protection, in collaboration with the diagnostics industry. It will also develop assays to be marketed by Magnisense under its own brand, including the MIAtetanos test for use by hospital emergency services and scheduled for launch this year. Opening this laboratory represents a new stage in our company's development. With Aderly's help, we're happy to be setting up operations in Lyon, an internationally recognized biological center and home to numerous biology-based multinational companies. The Lyon region: an ideal industrial location Lyon's scientific and research potential in the field of catalysis, as well as the expertise of the Axelera cluster (specializing in the environmental chemistry sector), convinced Toray's management to develop its activities in the region. In addition, the company has received the support of both the local authorities and Aderly in preparing bid for the Saint-Maurice-de-Beynost site, in competition with a site located in the Czech Republic. The new production facility principally dedicated to the production of metallized polypropylene films for food packaging will be operational by the first quarter of 2010 and will result in the creation of some 15 new jobs. This new activity should increase sales for the Saint-Maurice site (estimated to approach 170 million for 2011). Prospecting in Japan Aderly has a dedicated advisor to prospecting and advising companies from Japan: Yukiko Vincent. Her mission is focused on promoting the advantages of the Lyon region and its competitive clusters among Asian and particularly Japanese companies. In 2007, several actions were carried out, including: Aderly's participation in the international BioJapan show (antibodies and clinical trials); a prospecting mission on the construction-machinery sector in Tokyo and Osaka; and its association with the Lyon National Orchestra during its Japanese tour. In 2008, Aderly will continue in the same direction by taking part once again in such events as BioJapan and by carrying out prospecting missions for the dermo-cosmetology, environmental chemistry and construction-machinery sectors. 7 Aderly in action 07 Conference on international location branding Aderly and the Aspen Institute France are holding a conference on international marketing on Saturday, June 28, at the Lyon BARCELONA CITY Chamber of Commerce and Industry, on the theme "What makes a city visible?" This event will be an opportunity for Lyon-based experts to meet with the decision-makers of Europe's large cities, to compare ideas and good practices on territorial development in the heart of Europe. Diverse themes will be addressed: culture, innovation, society, economics, entrepreneurship, etc. Aspen Institute France, whose headquarters are located in Lyon, is an independent body financed by private companies, public authorities and schools. The institute has a two-part mission: - help decision-makers from the economic and political spheres, universities, associations, labor unions and the media to better identify the challenges they face by searching together for solutions to modern problems and - encourage, in an informal manner, the coming together of leaders from diverse geographic, cultural and professional worlds. BIO USA - June 2008 The Bio International Convention brings together companies, academic bodies, research centers and organizations actively carrying out R&D in the health, biotechnology, agricultural and environmental sectors. Held each year in a different American city, BIO organizes an international convention including an exhibition area, a business convention, forums and numerous seminars thematic. Aderly will be in San Diego in the United States, from June 16 to 21, 2008, for the international biotechnology convention: BIO Working side by side with its partners Lyonbiopôle and IFA (Invest in France Agency), Aderly will carry out a targeted prospecting operation in order to raise awareness among companies from the sector of the Lyon region's advantages and the dynamics generated by its competitive clusters. Several meetings with interested parties have already been scheduled. The agency will also participate in networking sessions organized by the Ministry of Industry on the subject of competitive clusters and the French Life Sciences Corridor event. In 2007, the convention allowed Aderly to detect three potential development projects for the Lyon region and identify several possible partnerships with regional actors. 8 08 Aderly in action Call for applications for 2007 and 2008 company set-ups The first Aderly Awards event for business set-ups attracted more than 350 participants in February 2007, in the Salle de la Corbeille at Lyon's Palais de la Bourse. Following this initial success, Aderly will hold the second Awards event in October 2008, to reward companies who have recently set up operations in the Lyon region. The awards cover four categories: French headquarters of a foreign-capital company Best progress over three years Decision-making center Life sciences As well as a special "ONLYLYON Ambassador" award. The awards ceremony will take place in October 2008 (date to be decided). The contest is open to all 2007 set-ups, as well as those from the first semester of 2008 (companies assisted by Aderly in setting up their operations in the Lyon region between 1 January 2007 and 31 June 2008). For the category "Best progress over three years", the contest is open to companies assisted by Aderly in setting up their operations in Greater Lyon between 1 January 2004 and 31 December 2005 and having enjoyed significant growth in terms of sales and/or jobs.
