(OTI) produces the annual Women in Trades Career Fair to help fill the gap in the labor force that is being created with record levels of upcoming retirements of skilled trades people and to increase diversity and the overall number of women working in trades careers. Participation in OTI s Women in Trades Career Fair offers an unparalleled opportunity to contribute to this effort and gain substantial recognition benefits. 1,997 people attended in 2014! Sponsors receive significant benefits at every level and are offered multiple ways to recruit qualified women to their company or industry. Lead an Interactive Workshop Middle school girls stop a simulated water main break in a workshop with the Portland Water Bureau. Workshops are the cornerstone of the Women in Trades Career Fair. By presenting a hands-on workshop, you have the opportunity to connect directly with young women exploring post-high school career options, experienced tradeswomen looking for work, and other adult women actively exploring the possibility of a trades career. Exhibits are open on Friday and Saturday and are visited by more than 1,100 high school girls and women seeking careers in the trades! In an effort to tailor content at the Fair to be age appropriate, Thursday, our Middle School Girls Day focuses on interactive workshops and does not feature an exhibit hall. 3 Lead an Interactive Workshop Lead an Interactive Workshop The engaging, hands-on workshops are the foundation of what makes the Women in Trades Career Fair such an exceptional experience for attendees and workshop leaders. By presenting an interactive workshop led by tradeswomen, workshop presenters have an extraordinary opportunity to connect with and inform hundreds of potential tradeswomen about their industry, showcase projects, and recruit new employees. Workshop space fees are waived for Sponsors & Exhibitors Each workshop presenter receives a Women in Trades Career Fair T-shirt, plus lunch and morning refreshments each day of participation. Previous workshops have covered topics such as: Concrete Stepping Stones, Wind Power, Wire a Light and Switch, Soldering Copper, Highway Transportation, Climb a Utility Pole, Operate a Jackhammer, Make Sheetmetal Flower Pots, Fun With Insulation, and many more.
