2 FREE Asbestos Awareness Training Awareness of Asbestos in the wkplace Wking Well Together West Midlands Asbestos related diseases are responsible f around 4500 deaths each year - the biggest single cause of wk-related deaths in Great Britain. The number of deaths attributable to asbestos continues to rise and is not likely to peak f a few years. Although the use of asbestos is prohibited in new buildings, it is still present in buildings built refurbished befe the year The Wking Well Together West Midlands Group is offering FREE courses that will provide you with infmation on: u the types, uses and likely occurrence of asbestos and asbestos containing materials (ACMs) in buildings and plant; u the general procedures to be followed to deal with an emergency, e.g. an uncontrolled release of asbestos dust into the wkplace; u how to avoid the risks from asbestos, e.g. f building wk, no employee should carry out wk which disturbs the fabric of a building unless the employer has confirmed that ACMs are not present. u the properties of asbestos and its effects on health, including the increased risk of lung cancer f asbestos wkers who smoke. The aims of these courses are to raise the awareness of individuals to the potential of asbestos exposure from their wk activities in the construction industry. Together, we can make a difference

6 These FREE courses are available to self-employed persons and persons wking f small to medium sized companies (less than 50 employees) who are involved in (but not limited to) demolition, refurbishment and maintenance, plus allied trades, where it is feseeable that their wk will disturb the fabric of a building. If you have no intention of removing asbestos, but wk on buildings built refurbished befe the year 2000, asbestos could be present. You will need awareness training so you know how to avoid the risks. Please note places are limited to two per company and a booking confirmation is required pri to attendance.
