1 College of Commissioner Science February 23, 2019 Location: University United Methodist Church Rooms: , Loft Date: February 23, 2019 Agenda/Schedule 7:30 AM Administration / Registration opens. 8:00 AM Classes Start 12:00 AM Lunch 1:00 PM Classes Resume 4:00 PM Event Closes The College of Commissioner Science training course is now open to all Scouters throughout the Council. It is a GREAT training opptunity f all scout leaders. We invite all adult leaders involved with scouting at any level, to join us f this exciting one-day event and to enhance your scouting knowledge f a better youth scouting movement! The curriculum spans Commissioner, Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Charter Organization Representatives, and Commissioners training. The Commissioner s curriculum spans three to four years with Bachels degree, Masters degree, Docts degree and Round Table courses. Bachels and Master degrees requires seven hours of training each. Docts Degree requires a written thesis. The course is design to train Commissioners in unit service but can be used by all Scouters to improve their unit skills. Registration: Register and pay online Cost of the course is $15. The fee covers : o Patch o Diploma o Lunch Topics: Unit Commissioner Basic Training Merit Badge Counsel Cub Scout Advanced Training Boy Scout Advanced Training Chartered Organization Representative Commissioner s Degrees o Bachels o Masters o PhD Lunch: Lunch will be provided, so that attendees can dialog and netwk during the event. Please note any special dietary needs when registering. Food Drive: We will be asking each attendee to bring 5 cans dry goods of food. The Scouting Slogan is Do a good turn daily. 3 Basic Courses CBT001 Unit Commissioner Basic Training Basic training f a unit serving commissioner. Offered as a 2-hour block. COR Charter Organization Representative Orientation The Chartered Organization Representative (COR) is the link between the unit and the chartered ganization. The COR is one of the essential three members in the management of the unit. This course will explain the COR relationship to the unit, the duties, responsibilities and partnerships of the COR. MB Counsel The Essentials of Merit Badge Counseling This course is required f all merit badge counsels. It will discuss: merit badge program role and benefits; merit badge counsel qualifications; the merit badge counseling process; merit badge requirements: fulfill as written; effective counseling; group instruction and camp settings Bachel s Courses BCS 102 Suppting Timely Unit Charter Renewal Since Commissioners are responsible f on-time unit charter renewal, this course explains the charter concept and steps in the annual process. BCS 104 Contacting Units Commissioners primary role as a friend to the unit is to help the unit succeed. At the ce of unit service and the most basic task is the unit visit. This is where the unit can experience the caring and suppt that the commissioner offers. BCS 105 Practical Solutions to Common Unit Needs A Commissioner s primary purpose is to help units succeed, develop a better program, and operate effectively. Frequently Commissioners are called upon to assist units with concerns that could hinder the unit s success. BCS 106 Commissioner Priities KNOW YOUR UNITS OUR NO. 1 PRIORITY BCS 107 Unit Journey to Excellence Learn about the elements of the Unit Journey to Excellence and what it takes to ensure success in every unit. BCS 110 Commissioner Style A commissioner s style how they provide service is as imptant as what they do in the service process. BCS 116 Collabative Assessments How to conduct an Action Planning meeting with a unit using the Unit Self-Assessment BCS 119 Webelos to Scout Transition This course will provide Commissioners with knowledge to share with unit leaders so they can assist their units in seamless transitioning of Webelos into Boy Scouts. NOTE: The above curriculums are suggested. The curriculums are NOT required. Attendees may complete any of the courses offered. However, all requirements will need to be completed to receive credit f the following designations: Basic Commissioner, Chartered Organization Representative, Merit Badge Counsel, Commissioner Degrees (Bachel, Master, PhD).

4 Roundtable Commissioner Courses BCS 150 Roundtables in Commissioner Service The course discusses how Roundtable is to help units succeed by providing useful program ideas, infmation on policy, and current infmation on council and district events and training opptunities. BCS 151 The Roundtable Commissioner Team During this course we will review the duties and responsibilities of the Roundtable Commissioner Team. We will do this by looking at the individual responsibilities of each member of the Roundtable Commissioner Team BCS 152 Using the Roundtable Program Guides During this presentation we review the Roundtable Planning Guides f Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts to include Varsity Teams and the Venturing Monthly Program Fum. We will do this by looking at the roundtable guides f each program and understand the parts and pieces of each. We will also cover the imptance of using the planning guides. BCS 153 Promoting Roundtable Without proper and consistent promotion you may find yourself frustrated at the lack of participation in your District and Council. A quality and consistent roundtable and a strong marketing campaign will attract and retain participants over time and impact their overall ability to lead their Scouting units. BCS 154 The Cub Scout Roundtable Cub Scout Roundtable is a fm of commissioner service and supplemental training f volunteers at the unit level. The objectives of Roundtables are to provide Cub Scout leaders with program ideas, infmation on policy and events, and training opptunities. It is a fum f sharing experiences and enjoying fun and fellowship with other Cub Scout leaders. BCS 155 The Boy Scout Roundtable The objectives of roundtables are to provide leaders with program ideas, infmation on policy and events, and training opptunities. It is a fum f sharing experiences and enjoying fun and fellowship with other Boy Scout leaders. When skillfully executed, the roundtable experience will inspire, motivate, and enable unit leaders to provide a stronger program f their Scouts. BCS 156 Recruiting, Training, and Recognizing the Roundtable Team Potential roundtable staff members are everywhere all you have to do is look. In recruiting your roundtable staff, be sure to look f people who are creative and innovative, and who have a can do attitude. Roundtable commissioners and assistants should all be trained so they will be fully qualified to present material and teach skills at roundtables in an interesting way. All roundtable commissioners are eligible to wk toward commissioner service awards.

5 Master s Level Courses MCS 302 Unit, District, and Council Finance This class provides an overview of the unit budget plan, who pays f Scouting at all levels from the unit to National, successful unit money-earning projects, and how to help units with special financial needs. MCS 303 Commissioner Lifesaving I This session sets the stage f saving a unit and reviews the basic unit lifesaving steps. MCS 304 Commissioner Lifesaving II This is an in-depth continuation of MCS 303 MCS 306 Counseling Skills How to use counseling skills to help unit leaders develop their potential. MCS 313 Orienting and Training, and recognizing Commissioners A session f all administrative commissioners. Covers training: new commissioner ientation, basic training, and continuing education; and awards: Arrowhead Hon, and Commissioner s Key MCS 317 This session will focus on the ineffective volunteer, the person who just isn t wking out. MCS 318 Top 10 Ways to Ensure Good Commissioner Service This session summarizes key facts in good commissioner service found in other courses. MCS 324 Preventing Commissioner Burnout This course will look at some ways we can help overcome burnout situations and motivate ourselves and others toward better tenure in the BSA. MCS 325 Consider Your Spouse and Family This course is intended to assist commissioners in ways to understand and strengthen family relationships.

6 Continuing Education Courses CED 716 Learn to analyze conflict and apply tools to specific situations CED 718 The course will identify communication, and tools to be me effective Courses CS Adv. Cub Scout : Delivering Adventure How to effectively develop, implement, manage and improve Cub Scout advancement programs while maintaining a FUN environment f all youth participants. BS Adv. Troop This course will cover why advancement is imptant and explain why it is one of the eight methods of Scouting used by Scout leaders to fulfill the aims of the BSA. This course will also explain the methods related to BSA advancement.
