1 DEMENTIA AND PRIMARY CARE A ONE-DAY CONFERENCE TUESDAY 24TH OCTOBER 2006 IRIS MURDOCH BUILDING, UNIVERSITY OF STIRLING A one-day conference to explore issues related to supporting people with dementia and their families in the community, and to launch a new CD rom for those working in Primary Care.
2 ABOUT THE CONFERENCE Current figures suggest that there are 63,700 people over the age of 65 living in Scotland with a diagnosis of dementia. There are also in the UK 18,000 younger people under 65 who have been diagnosed with dementia. As people with dementia remain at home longer, the anticipated demands on Primary Care nurses mean that issues of early detection, interagency assessment and collaborative working will increase. However providing practical help to the person and their family needs to be balanced with emotional support that recognises the stresses that diagnosis can bring particularly for the person with dementia. This conference will consider these issues through the presentations and workshops. A new interactive CD rom learning resource, 'Frank's Friday' will be launched at the conference. The CD rom is intended to support the continuing learning of nurses working in Primary Care and encourages reflective practice. WHO SHOULD ATTEND? For practice nurses, community nurses and others working in primary care.
