1 th Anniversary Year GREAT LAKES BAY Hispanic Leadership Institute (GLBHLI (Training Institute) Mission Statement The GREAT LAKES BAY HISPANIC LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE (GLBHLI) shall provide individuals the opportunity to develop the skills and relationships to become effective leaders and provides a program that prepares and supports future visionary leaders who improve their lives and the community. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION Hispanics descent, ages 21 to 45, male or female, who reside in and plan to stay in Great Lakes Bay Region (Saginaw, Bay, Midland Counties and Mt. Pleasant) Must be a U.S. Citizen. Must have a High School Diploma or GED minimum. Must show a willingness to learn and to be introduced to local community organizations and businesses. MUST BE WILLING/ABLE TO TAKE 6 ½ Vacation/Training Days off from work to attend classes. Individuals who have exemplified leadership qualities in their professional environment and who are looking to expand their leadership skills. Also, individuals who would be under the radar for traditional leadership programs. Cost An initial fee of $75 is required from all individuals that are accepted into the program: $35 registration fee and $40 for your official GLBHLI Class Polo Shirt. Total Check of $75 due by January 18, Make check payable to: SVSU-GLBHLI. The cost of the program is $5095 per individual. This can be waived with your participation in our annual fundraisers (Loons fundraiser minimum 30 tickets, and graduation ad sales fund raiser, your commitment to the program, and a signed commitment letter.) You are responsible to sell or pay the equivalent of this obligation. Mandatory Meetings & Required Events All classes and events as listed on the master 2018 Agenda. (Attached) Participant must complete 50 hours of Community Service prior to graduation from the program which includes: 20 Group Volunteer Event, 20 Sponsor Volunteer Event, and 10 hours Individual Volunteering, 3 SVSU Approved Seminars. All volunteer hours must be with a United Way affiliated program. In addition, participants must volunteer at the following: the GLBHBA Golf Outing (5 hours). You must participate in the Latino Loons Day, sell a minimum of 30 tickets, participate in the Viva La Spirits Day and sell 30 tickets, sell 20 tickets to the graduation event, and participate in other fundraisers in lieu of the program tuition fee. Participant must attend a MANDATORY two-day team building event that will be scheduled in February. If you do not attend this event, you cannot participate in this year s program. In order to get credit for two-day course, you must attend both day or it will count as two misses. Participant must attend a minimum of three (3) Great Lakes Bay Hispanic Business Association meetings prior to December /19 MBReyes

KEEP THIS PAGE Great Lakes Bay Hispanic Leadership Institute APPLICATION AND SELECTION PROCESS All applications must be submitted by December 20, 2017 to be considered for Cohort 10 of the GLBHLI, which runs from February 1, 2018 January 29, Classes meet once per month from 8 am to 5 pm, plus other activities as listed. (You may want to make note that some classes run two days. In order to get credit for the class you must attend both days.) To be considered complete, an application must include the following materials: 1. Application Form A with. 2. Initialed GLBHLI s Ambassador Code of Conduct and Guidelines Form B. 3. Two letters of recommendation to be included with application. Note: Recommendation letters may not come from relatives. 4. Signed Declaration/Commitment Document. Form C Please do not submit additional letters of recommendation or supplemental materials other than what is requested. Type or print in black ink. Please use full names of organizations and avoid using initials or acronyms. You MUST submit one electric copy to: mbreyes@svsu.edu by deadline. You must also submit one original hard copy with signatures. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Applicants will be notified by January 9, 2018 or sooner, of acceptance or denial for Cohort 10 of the GLBHLI Ambassadors. You will be required to attend the graduation ceremony on Thursday, January 25, 2018, at 5:30 p.m. at which time you will be introduced as part of the 10 th Anniversary Class. 3 Great Lakes Bay Hispanic Leadership Institute GLBHLI s Ambassador Code of Conduct and Guidelines GLBHLI Code of Conduct This document provides a set of guidelines and explains to all Ambassadors the high standards of conduct that leaders in the Great Lakes Bay Hispanic Leadership Institute. Leadership by Example We expect leadership by example. Leadership is not an award, right, or title; it is a privilege. A leader will only retain his or her position if he or she acts as a leader. This means that they act with civility, respect, and trust in the ways described in the Code of Conduct. It also means that their contributions are sustained, significant, and reliable while in the program. You will give and receive shared recognition and respect from your fellow Ambassadors at all times. As a leader, you will show patience, respect, and civility to all. You will do your best to reflect the values and behaviors we should expect from an Ambassador. You will refrain from gossip and actions that may reflect on the group in a negative manner. While in any activity or event where confidential information is divulged, you as an Ambassador, will respect the confidentiality and privacy of others. You will refrain from any action or behavior that would be divisive or offensive to fellow Ambassadors, program officials or others. As a member of the Great Lakes Bay Hispanic Leadership I will; 1. attend all programs scheduled 2. show up to meetings on time and prepared 3. participate and contribute to the program 4. listen to others and contribute to discussions 5. be fair and take action not to discriminate 6. respect others privacy 7. Encourage open communication between Ambassadors and Program Coordinators This is a training program designed to help you achieve your goals. As such, all program designs and decisions are made by the program directors and you, as an Ambassador, shall be required to honor those decisions made in the best interest of the group and program continuation. Also, if you are related in any way (sibling, spouse, cousin, aunt, uncle, child, in-law) to any other Ambassador in the current years group, you must disclose and discuss with Director. Allowances into the program will be made on a case-by-case situation, assuring that there are not conflicts of interest of the program. Dress Code All members are required to dress in business attire for every meeting and event held for the GLBHLI throughout the year. At no time are Ambassadors allowed to wear jeans, tee shirts, sweatshirts, tennis shoes or flip flops for any official meeting or event. Most meeting are Business Casual," but it doesn t mean you re actually going to be "casual. Basically, business casual for women is a shirt with a collar and/or a sweater, khakis or dress pants, and nice shoes. Women can also sometimes wear a moderate length dress or skirt (knee-length or longer!). For men, business casual is a polo shirt or shirt with a collar and/or sweater, khakis or dress pants, and dress shoes. There will be events that require professional attire. For women, this means a business suit or pants suits, or dress and jacket. For men, professional dress means a business suit or a blazer, dress pants and a tie. You also understand and make the commitment to the following program requirements: Mandatory Meetings & Events Required. Monthly meetings are from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm. READ AND INITIAL EACH LINE THAT YOU ACKNOWLEDGE THE REQUIREMENT! I agree and will abide by the GLBHLI s Ambassador Code of Conduct & Guidelines. I understand that I must attend all sessions required. If I miss more than ONE session, I may be terminated from program or asked to finish the next year. I understand that I must arrive on time for each session.
