1 Overview The Chartered Institute of Building s annual conference is attended by a global audience, with every single international hub being represented by some of our most senior members. This year it is being held in the UK, in the historic city of Cardiff and we expect a large audience of influential industry players in attendance. The main conference is designed to inspire, inform and introduce you to new technologies and new ideas that will keep your business one step ahead of future developments within the construction industry. You will learn about smart cities, leading infrastructure projects, exceptional buildings and new construction techniques and processes. There is also an opportunity to learn more about the global political landscape and how that translates at a local level. Alongside the main conference, we are also running a CPD Workstream (Continuing Professional Development) delivering learning on existing & historic buildings and offsite construction. During refreshment and lunch breaks, delegates will have the chance to browse the exhibition stands and speak with our sponsors and supporting organisations. To round off the day we are holding our President s Dinner, where Rebecca Thompson FCIOB formally takes her position and delivers her inaugural speech. 6 CIOB President s Inaugural Dinner About the Venue: As many people will know, coal and Cardiff are synonymous with one another. The city has undoubtedly been shaped by its coal exportation history this former Coal Exchange has been sympathetically renovated to preserve Cardiff s history in this remarkable building. Prior to setting up her own company, Rebecca was at York Minster, most recently as Chapter Steward (the Cathedral equivalent of Chief Executive) and prior to that as Superintendent of Works, leading the maintenance, restoration and conservation of the Minster and precinct properties.
