1 Activities for Kids Reunion 2011 Youth Program and Child Care The University will be offering a youth program on Friday and Saturday for children 6 to 15 years old. The program provides adult supervision, dinner, and academic and recreational activities. Activities are designed to be age-appropriate, with separate schedules for ages 6 to 8, 9 to 12, and 13 to 15. The program begins with registration at 3:30 p.m. and concludes each evening at 11:00 p.m. There is absolutely no walk-in registration during the weekend. Child care is also available Friday and Saturday evenings for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers (3 months to age 10) at a licensed childcare facility, the Ithaca Child Care Center (IC3). For more information, visit alumni.cornell.edu/reunion. Preregistration is required. Preregister online at Fun in the Sun Saturday from 1:30-3:30 p.m. on the Arts Quad--rain or shine! Fun in the Sun is a two hour Carnival on the Arts Quad offering fun-filled activities for kids of all ages. Activities will include a DJ, giant obstacle course with slide, trackless train, special appearances by the Big Red Band and the Big Red Bear, demonstrations by the Cornell Raptor Program (live birds of prey), tree climbing with the Cornell Outdoor Education Program, arts and crafts, face painting, a water balloon toss, relay races, and ice cream for all. Cornell Law School Scavanger Hunt Particicate in a fun-filled scavenger hunt around campus. Search high and low, follow hints and directions for the items you must find and the activities to be completed. Once you have completed at least 8 out of 10 tasks, bring your bag full of loot to the scavenger check-in station at the CLS Barbeque Lunch on Saturday. All successful entrants will be entered into a random drawing for one of our amazing tote bags filled with great Cornell Law School merchandise! Good luck!!!
2 Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences Understanding of the earth's system is essential to the prosperity and future of our society. Our graduates, past and future, are leaders in the application of earth sciences to betterment of life, in setting public policy, in educating an earth-savvy public, and in better understanding the Earth system. Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences Open House Friday, 11 a.m. 2 p.m., Snee Hall Atrium. Visit the Timothy N. Heasley Mineral Museum and inspect our mastodon and fossil exhibits while keeping an eye on the earth's last rumblings at the Snee earthquake seismograph. Enjoy a stroll with the self-guided tour through the Engineering Quad Rock Parks. Tour the Paleontological Research Institution (PRI) and the Museum of the Earth Saturday, 3 p.m. 5 p.m., Museum of the Earth, 1259 Trumansburg Rd., Ithaca. Tour the Paleontological Research Institution and Museum of the Earth (affiliated with Cornell's Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences)! A right-whale skeleton suspended in the atrium welcomes you to a beautiful museum within which you can follow the major transformations of life through the ages as displayed through fossils and videos. Observe the newly installed seismograph display and view research by EAS faculty and students. Collect fossils from the Devonian seas of Ithaca. Fun for all ages! Free admission is offered. A special lecture presented by EAS professor and Director of the Paleontological Research Institute, Warren D. Allmon on Saturday, 3:30 p.m. 4:30 p.m. Cornell NanoScale Facility Cornell NanoScale Science and Technology Facility (CNF) is one of the leading nanotechnology facilities in the country. Come and learn about the promise of nanotechnology and Cornell's role in this exciting field. CNF Video and Tour Friday, 12:30 p.m. 1:30 p.m., 1:15 p.m. 2:15 p.m., 2 p.m. 3 p.m., 354 Duffield Hall. The video tour and talk will give an overview of what we do and how we do it. We'll then take a walking tour through Duffield Hall, and discuss the tools available to our users. The video/talk/tour lasts about one hour. Refreshments and goodies are provided. College of Arts and Sciences Favorite Physics Demonstrations Friday, 2 p.m. 2:30 p.m., Rockefeller Hall, Schwartz Auditorium. Alumni, family, and friends are invited to view entertaining lecture demonstrations by the physics faculty, with explanations designed for all ages. Refreshments provided.
3 Department of Astronomy Space Sciences Open House Friday, 1 p.m. 4 p.m., Space Sciences Building. Space Sciences Building open house: Friday, 1 p.m. 4 p.m.; with scheduled talks on Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Room 105 Space Sciences Building; poster session with Space Sciences graduate students on hand to answer questions about an array of magnificent projects. Posters and images will cover topics ranging from the exciting exploration of nearby planets to glimpses of distant galaxies in the deepest regions of the universe. Hands on activities for kids on Friday! Stargazing at the Fuertes Observatory Thursday, 9 p.m. 12 a.m., Friday, 9 p.m. 12 a.m., Saturday, 9 p.m. 12 a.m., Fuertes Observatory. Weather permitting. The Fuertes Observatory is a heritage building housing an 87-year-old, 12- inch refracting telescope that is open to the public on every clear Friday night. Observations through the telescope are subject to clear or partly cloudy skies. In the event of cloudy skies, there will be no observations, but the observatory will be kept open in the early evening so guests may visit the facility and explore the workings of the telescope, the components of which are innovatively designed. Walking Tours and Hikes Historic Walking Tour Friday, 10 a.m. 11 a.m., Saturday, 10 a.m. 11 a.m., depart from west entrance of Barton Hall (nearest Statler Hall). Designed especially for Reunion weekend, this one-hour tour will feature some of Cornell's most historic places: Sage Chapel, the Andrew Dickson White House and garden, Old Stone Row, and Uris Undergraduate Library. Walking will be moderate, with numerous chances to visit building interiors. This tour will end at Willard Straight Hall for an opportunity to continue learning about Willard Straight and the building with a casual reception and tour. Upper Cascadilla Gorge Hike Friday, 2 p.m. 3 p.m., Saturday, 1 p.m. 2 p.m., Meet at Schwartz Performing Arts Center in Collegetown, the tour will end at the Engineering Quad. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Join Cornell Plantations' Natural Areas Director, Todd Bittner, and Interpretation Coordinator, Sarah Fiorello '98 on a hike through Upper Cascadilla Gorge. We'll provide an update on the restoration project for the iconic gorge trail and explore the geology, natural history, and beauty of this scenic greenway, which is one of the many natural areas managed by Cornell Plantations. Although most of the hike will follow a level pathway, there is a moderately steep hill at the end. Morning Gorge and Waterfall Tour with Experience! The Finger Lakes Sunday, 10 a.m.- 2p.m., Preregistration required. Tours will leave from Alumni House, 626 Thurston Avenue. The gorges are still here and are as magnificent as ever. Join us for a geologically interpretive hike of the area's favorites--upper Treman, Buttermilk Falls, and Ithaca Falls. The hike is 2 to 3 miles of mostly downhill walking. Guests need to be in shape to traverse over 600 steps down the gorge trails. Price and registration: $55 per person; $45 for children 12 years and younger. To register, go to ur_cornellreunion.html..

Call for more information. One child age 6, or under, free with each paid adult. Gorge Zipline Friday, 10 a.m.- 5 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m.- 5 p.m., Near East Foot Bridge at Beebe Lake. Zip across Hemlock Gorge above Beebe Lake. COE instructors are on-hand for the adventure, all equipment is provided, no experience necessary. Minimum age is 8 years. $8 per person per hour for pre-registered, or $10 on site. Space is limited, so pre-registration is strongly recommended. Call for more information.

No experience necessary. Instruction and all equipment provided. $25 per person for 2 hours for pre-registered, or $30 at the door. Spaces are limited so pre-registration is strongly recommended. Cornell Chimes They say that before Cornell students graduate, they should take at least one trip to the top of McGraw Tower to see a live chimes concert and admire the panoramic views. Did you ever make the climb? Have you visited the tower recently? Visitors are welcome at any of our concerts or at our open house. Please check for any concerts not listed here. Cornell Chimes Concerts will be Friday, 6 p.m. 6:15 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m. 10:15 a.m. Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art Considered one of the finest university art museums in the country, the Johnson Museum brings the art of the world to Cornell. This year the Museum will offer hard-hat tours of the new wing from retiring director Frank Robinson as well as one-hour docent-led tours featuring highlights of the permanent collections and special exhibitions. Special Reunion Museum hours are Thursday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.; Friday through Sunday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Admission is free. Docent Tour Friday, 10 a.m.- 11 a.m., Saturday, 10 a.m.- 11 a.m., Johnson Art Museum. Docent tour of the permanent collections and special exhibitions. Meet in the lobby. Hard Hat Tour of Johnson Museum New Wing Thursday, 3 p.m.- 4 p.m., Friday, 11 a.m.- 12 p.m., 1 p.m.- 2 p.m., Saturday, 11 a.m.- 12 p.m., 1 p.m.- 2 p.m., Johnson Art Museum Lobby. Led by Frank Robinson, museum director. Preregistration is required; call Space is limited to 12 people and is first-come, firstserved. Savage Club Show Thursday, 8:30 p.m., Alice Statler Auditorium. The Savage Club, founded in 1895, will continue its annual tradition of providing a variety show for returning alumni of all ages. This year's show will feature jazz and rock bands, Cornell songs, comedy, magic, juggling, and more. Come early, stay late, and enjoy the fun! Tickets are $20 and will be available at the door. Savage Club CDs will be available at the show for $10.
