15 GCT Middle School student Kate Young recently completed a service project that was inspired by an article she read over her Christmas break. Kate read about a girl who still remembers being taken from her home and having only the jeans and red shirt on her back. This bothered Kate and made her want to do something to help foster children. She decided she wanted to make bags of comfort items for case workers to take with them when they go take children from their homes. With the help of school social worker, Robin Williams, and her church family at First United Methodist Church of Paragould, Kate was able to donate more than she ever imagined. She filled backpacks with Bibles, blankets, stuffed animals, coloring books and crayons, toothbrushes and toothpaste, hairbrushes, and an inspirational note. She also donated pajamas, socks, and other personal items that the case workers can give to the children. Kate and April Faughn, Children and Family supervisor at Greene County DHS, are pictured with some of the items Kate donated. Thank you to Robin Williams for the Photo and information. GCT Elementary celebrated Read Across America week by inviting community members to read Dr. Seuss books to students.
