In California, the entire state faces a housing crisis, and the number of people who are one paycheck or health crisis away from being homeless is a national phenomenon. The problem is so complex that just talking about homelessness can seem overwhelming. But cities across the country are making strides. Join us for an in- depth conversation with the people making tough choices and leading the way toward better outcomes. Is it better to own 1 percent of a high- rise or 100 percent of a gas station? To go national or stay local? Spoiler alert: you can go broke either way. Small- Scale Developer Skill Session: Strategic Planning Smaller- scale developers can benefit from their ability to more quickly identify and execute deals. But that agility can come at the expense of more thoughtful planning. Wakeland is a political strategist, public policy expert, and advocate for children and families. She has helped found the Los Angeles Neighborhood Land Trust, which builds parks in Los Angeles' most park- poor neighborhoods, and the Pobladores Fund, a giving circle that contributes to local grassroots social justice causes. The conversation will touch on her advocacy and leadership.
