The Session Daily is your one-stop source for program highlights, special events and general news about the Annual Session & Exhibition. Over the next four days you will attend a variety of informative and interactive educational sessions and workshops, as well as engaging plenary sessions. Additionally, you will have ample opportunity to network and socialize with peers and colleagues. There s so much to see and do, and we encourage you to use the 2015 ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition mobile app to navigate this rich meeting. The Exhibit Hall is open on Sunday and Monday, March 8 9, with dedicated and extended hours on both days. Stop by and visit more than 70 exhibitors (including the ADEA Showcase), the ADEA TechExpo and poster presentations by faculty and students. We have limited programming that overlaps with Exhibit Hall hours so you can take advantage of enhanced offerings in the Exhibit Hall and the scheduled networking opportunities, including the Connect & Collaborate Lounge, a coffee break and lunches for attendees. This year we are again offering in the Exhibit Hall an exciting series titled New Idea Sessions informal 20-minute topical discussions for 50 participants. Presenters will address an issue, followed by a question and answer period. See your program book or the mobile app for a complete listing, and please note that CE credits are not awarded for participation in these sessions. In addition, there are three Chair of the ADEA Board of Directors Symposia this year. Unlocking Potential Through Collaboration: A Shared Model for Faculty Mentoring (Sunday at 4:00 p.m.), Igniting Minds Through Student Self-directed Group Learning: Integrated Problem Sessions (Monday at 1:30 p.m.) and Financing the Future of Dental Education (Tuesday at 8:00 a.m.). We hope you ll attend these informative sessions and take advantage of the unique opportunities to hear experts and visionaries in our profession. The Annual Session & Exhibition will end with the closing of the ADEA House of Delegates at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10. 3 The 2015 ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition is Wired Have everything you need in the palm of your hand with the 2015 ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition mobile app. This year there are many great features. Also new this year get rid of that spiral notebook and use the mobile app during educational sessions to take notes. Find the uploaded presentation and interact with the slides by drawing directly on the screen and highlighting text. Use the note-taking mode to type your notes next to each slide. Later, you can print the notes you took from your Online Personal Summary, which is accessible from the app s main search screen. You can also yourself the link to your notes by selecting Summary Link. Download the app by searching 2015 ADEA in the app store on your device. To ensure that you receive the most up-to-date information, including onsite education session meeting room changes and general show alerts, be sure to accept the mobile app push notifications option when prompted. ADEA also provides an online program planner ( eventscribe.com/2015/adea/), which can be used to create a custom itinerary, browse the schedule or search for presentations and sessions by learning focus, type, title, date, time, presenter name or institution. 4 Congratulations Congratulations to the ADEA Leadership Institute Class of 2015! The Commencement Reception was held Friday, March 6, at 6:00 p.m. Friday s Highlights Some attendees arrived in Boston early to participate in Annual Session & Exhibition pre-programming scheduled for Friday, March 6. A featured session on Friday explored the ways that dental schools are making a difference in access to dental care, diversity and equality. Titled Access, Diversity and Equity: The Role of Dental Education, it was presented by Paul Glassman, D.D.S., M.A. MBA, University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry; and Kim D Abreu, M.P.H., ADEA. The discussion in this interactive session focused on forming a new special interest group within ADEA. While there are other ADEA sections and special interest groups that touch on access, diversity and equality, there currently is not a group dedicated to the broad role dental education institutions can play in improving oral health in underserved populations. For the past two years, Dr. Glassman and Ms. D Abreu have co-directed the Dental Pipeline National Dental Learning Institute. Through this partnership between ADEA and Pacific Dugoni, 18 dental schools have engaged community partners to implement a year-long minority student recruitment and retention campaign. The campaign aims to expand community-based dental education with the ultimate goal of creating a diverse workforce of dentists who understand the oral health needs of patients from underserved populations. While working to forge better partnerships between dental schools and their respective communities, we also hope to sound a clarion call to action for a broad community of stakeholders to recruit students from diverse backgrounds into the pipeline and to address oral disease among underserved populations, said Ms. D Abreu. 4 ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition

6 Education & CE Credits Education Session Evaluations and Continuing Education Credits ADEA designates specific programs and activities of the 2015 ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition for continuing education (CE) credits. Earn CE credits by attending educational sessions in their entirety and completing the evaluation process for those sessions. To evaluate an attended educational session and obtain a CE Verification Form, visit adea.org/atadea15 and complete the online process. The deadline to complete the evaluation process and print a PDF of your CE Verification Form is Thursday, April 30, CE Verification Forms cannot be reproduced by ADEA after the deadline. Questions concerning the evaluation process may be directed to the ADEA Registrar at adearegistration@jspargo.com or call from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday. The evaluation process is electronic only. How to Obtain an ADEA SoTLfest Certificate of Recognition The ADEA Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (ADEA SoTLfest)- related sessions examine how teaching is valued, assessed and rewarded, and how it contributes to the overall learning experience of students and educators. To be eligible for an ADEA SoTLfest Certificate of Recognition, you must participate in a minimum of three ADEA SoTLfest-designated sessions plus at least one Chair of the ADEA Board of Directors Symposia and complete the online evaluation process associated with those sessions. For more details regarding which sessions are designated for ADEA SoTL or information on CE, please visit adea.org/atadea15 or look for the yellow SOTL next to session titles in the program book. Call for Programs for the 2016 ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition The 2015 Annual Session & Exhibition is the perfect time to get together with your colleagues and collaborate on submissions for next year s educational programming. ADEA invites you to submit abstracts for educational programming for the 2016 ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition and to share your best teaching techniques. Each educational session will be placed in one of the following categories: Admissions and Operations Advocacy and Public Policy Leadership and Career Development Research and Trends Teaching, Learning and Curriculum Development Technological Innovations The 2016 ADEA Annual Session submission site contains complete definitions of the categories and the different session formats available. Be sure to review all instructions carefully. Programs that address the needs of new or emerging educators (intensive faculty development for those with fewer than three years of teaching experience) are especially encouraged.
