It requires great athleticism, technique, ball-handling skills, strength, stamina, strategy and a winning mental attitude. I want to commend the teams who have come from across Ontario to compete in this provincial tournament. You have gotten to this point because you are all champions! I know that your performances will delight basketball fans and inspire team spirit in your cities and towns. I thank the OBA for hosting this championship and for promoting excellence in amateur basketball. These games are a great opportunity for the next generation of basketball champions to hone their game and to develop other skills that will serve them well in life. I also want to acknowledge the fans and family who have come to watch and cheer. Your support and your love of this great sport means the world to these young players. 36 Over the past 10 years we have introduced many initiatives that we believe are in the spirit of the Vision, Mission & Values of Ontario Basketball. We support all tiers of play from Major Atom up in both girl s and boy s divisions often with more than one competitive level team. We continue to support as many teams as possible based on number of athletes & availability of quality coaching. We have developed a Developmental program combined with a House League program to introduce many of the initiatives described and outlined in Canadian Sport for Life literature. All our baskets are lowered to the appropriate height and our time allotments are following a time ratio of 80/20 skill session versus game with the game segment being 4 on 4. We endeavor to continue to provide programs that will engage our membership while keeping Fun at the forefront for all. We also run a JR. NBA Program. We have hosted seven Ontario Cup Provincial Championships consisting of Minor Bantam Boys, Major Midget Boys & Junior Boys with great success since the inception of our club following amalgamation of Kingston clubs in As a part of our competitive manual it is mandated that all our competitive teams participate in their respective Ontario Cup Championships. Every March we host a multi division girl s sanctioned event (Mega Tournament) with a high level of organization that continually brings teams back each year. Our numbers have ranged from 48 to 64 teams. Our plans to continue this have not changed and our volunteer group continues to lend its full support and commitment to this event. Our commitment to the boy s program provincially has been fortified by our successful bid to host the Junior Boys Ontario Cup Championship for 2017 and The Kingston Impact Basketball Club and its executive members would like to welcome all participants to our great city and wish all the best of luck. 86 Eastern Ontario Basketball Association April 27-29, 2018 & May 11-13, 2018 Welcome to the 2018 Ontario Cup Provincial Championships! The Eastern Ontario Basketball Association (EOBA) is proud to be hosting both the U16 Girls and U16 Boys and their families in the Nation s Capital. Having the tournament in the Nation s capital means you will not only be treated to a great basketball experience but we also invite you to take in many of the sites that make Ottawa great the Rideau Canal, the Ottawa River, the Parliament Buildings, Little Italy, and the historic ByWard Market District. What better way to celebrate then by spending a weekend in the Nation s capital. The EOBA is an Eastern Ontario cooperative of local basketball clubs that work together to provide an opportunity for youth in the Eastern Ontario area to engage in all levels of play. The EOBA is Ontario s largest regional basketball association with over 200 teams ranging from Elite to house league stretching from Cornwall to Pembroke to Ottawa to Belleville. The EOBA works closely with the Ontario Basketball Association to ensure that its programs, league structure and overall direction align with and fit within the Ontario Basketball Association programing while meeting the unique geographic challenges of Eastern Ontario. This region has long been a hotbed of basketball talent starting with the perennial men s CIS national champion Carleton Ravens. Many of the area s players have gone on to higher levels of the game including Canadian college and University teams, the NCAA and Provincial and National teams. The Eastern Ontario clubs are very proud to play a part in developing players both on and off the court from Novice right through to the rest of their life. We would like to thank the Ottawa Tourism, the Ottawa Public School Board, the Ottawa Catholic District School Board and the Ottawa Valley Board of Approved Basketball Officials for their support of this tournament. We would also like to thank all the member clubs of the EOBA as well as the other groups who have volunteered to assist this weekend as site conveners, scorers, timers, shot clock operators and in other capacities to make sure that these Championships run smoothly. We hope that you enjoy your stay this weekend and that all your time, hard work, and dedication from this season will be showcased.
