The Alumni Weekend is rapidly approaching and it is my pleasure to invite you to join us for this awesome Alumni Weekend of enjoyment. This yearly event will be held on April 10-13, 2014 in the foothills of Spartanburg, South Carolina and is hosted by the Morris College Spartanburg Chapter. We hope that you will plan to be part of this year s celebration as we strive to continue the promotion of the MCNAA mission to provide and support educational and scholarship opportunities. We look forward to working with you to increase our fundraising as we support our institution. Your membership dues and generous donations, in support of the many worthy projects, have afforded MCNAA the ability to raise the percentage and level of alumni giving. Again this year, each alumnus is encouraged to give $100 plus cents representing your class year. For example, if you graduated in 1974, please give $ The Alumni Weekend committees have exhausted an unlimited number of voluntary hours to plan a memorable weekend, The Legacy Continues.Celebrating Then and Now. The weekend schedule is filled with opportunities to renew friendships, network and celebrate with classmates and friends. In addition to the MCNAA awardees, chapters and alumni celebrating fifty or more years as an alumnus, we will recognize classes ending in 4 and 9, Greeks Please take a few minutes to review the Weekend Registration Booklet as you begin planning to join us in Spartanburg. It outlines and provides a details of the weekend activities at a glance. A block of rooms is reserved at the Spartanburg Marriott Hotel for the Morris College National Alumni Association. 7 SURRENDER TIME AND RESOURCE (S T A R) The Surrender Time and Resource (S T A R) Program has been established to boost alumni attendance and encourage fellowship and fun during the Morris College National Alumni Association (MCNAA) Weekend. The class with the highest amount of financial alumni members present will be recognized and presented with the annual S T A R Award for This travelling plaque is a way to honor and congratulate the class for commitment and maximum participation. This very important recognition is considered a high mark of excellence within our association and the plaque is showcased on the campus, visible to our students and visitors. 17 Establishing or Reactivating A Morris College Alumni Chapter Morris College, along with the Office of Alumni Affairs, is committed to offering assistance to alumni who are interested in establishing new chapters in their area or reactivating a chapter that is already established. We realize that Morris College alumni have a genuine purpose and are among the college s greatest resources. they play a unique role in student recruitment, financial support, promoting the College to the public, and perpetuating the college s legacy and mission. Thus, it is imperative that we keep our alumni chapters functioning vitally. For those interested in serving as a contact person in establishing a local chapter or reactivating an existing chapter in a particular area, the following steps should be taken: Contact the Morris College Office of Alumni Affairs at: 100 West College Street Sumter, South Carolina Phone: (803) / Fax: (803) The Office of Alumni Affairs will provide you, once your identity has been confirmed, with a printout of alumni in your area. We will also notify the alumni in the area, by mail, of your efforts to establish or reactivate the local chapter. Three (3) members or more are needed to establish a local chapter. Officers (President, Secretary, Treasurer and others, if needed) must be elected and names forwarded by mail or fax to the Office of Alumni Affairs. When written and duly adopted in a business meeting by the local chapter, an official copy of the Constitution and By-Laws, meeting dates, and times should be forwarded to the Office of Alumni Affairs. Chapter members are required to pay national dues of $25 annually to the Morris College National Alumni Association to receive a membership card. Each local chapter will set its own local dues requirement. It is the desire of your alma mater to stimulate the growth and development of Morris College alumni chapters so that they will be strong and responsive. We stand ready to assist all of our chapters that are striving to become more serviceable to the College. By working together, we can embrace the challenges of the future while preserving and transmitting our rich and unique heritage.
