1 OHIO HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL COACHES ASSOCIATION March 24, :30 PM at Marriott Airport Hotel Columbus, Ohio 1. WELCOME - President Wally Vickers. 2. Tom Rettig, Girls North-South Director, led us in prayer. 3. ROLL CALL Bob Von Kaenel. Absent Tony Bisutti 4. FALL MEETING MINUTES - 1 st Walsh - 2 nd McBride to approve the minutes of the fall meeting. 5. TREASURER S REPORT - 1 st Shoemaker 2 nd Murphy to approve the Treasurer s Report. 6. MEMBERSHIP REPORT - Wayne Wiseman reported membership at 3,749 members. This was a slight drop from last year. Elections will be held next year for 2 nd Vice-President, Odd number District Directors, and GAC for D-1/4, 8/9, 10/11, 13/14. 1 st Gorski 2 nd Cambron 7. EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING w/ Dr. DAN ROSS OHSAA Commissioner - President Wally Vickers reported: 1) Discussion on OHSAA/NCAA Sanctions of our events. Jerry Snodgrass will handle it. 2) Times for presentations and events being held during the state tournament games were clarified 3) The OHSAA explained that a Hospitality Room would be made available at the Fawcett Center during the tournament games 4) The Rawlings Contract was discussed and stated that it would probably be a 5-year contract this coming year. 5) Our proposals and when we should make our presentation was discussed. Dr. Ross stated that Athletic Directors opposed the additional games, on a recent survey. He stated that our request would be better at the May Meeting 6) Dr. Ross pointed out some problems with credit flex, and the IMG Academy in Florida 8. OHSBCA PROPOSALS President Wally Vickers asked for direction in regards to proposals which will be presented at the May OHSAA Board of Control Meeting. Directors agreed that we should continue to pursue the 22-game proposal which had been proposed previously. We also discussed the individual workout proposal. 9. DISTRICT CONCERNS: District 1: Dan Gorski (Boardman) None District 2: Sean O Toole (St. Ignatius) - Continue to pursue 22 games District 3: Bob Walsh (Elyria) - Continue to pursue 22 games and individual workouts District 4: Tom McBride (Lake) - Continue to pursue 22 games District 5: Joe Dunlevy (Indian Creek) - None District 6: Tim Birie (Galion) - None District 7: Denny Shoemaker (Sylvania Northview) - 1) Concerns over officials in girls tournament games 2) In favor of 22 games District 8: Mike Kanney (Coldwater) - None

2 District 9: Kris Spriggs (Kenton Ridge) - None District 10: Tony Bisutti (Dublin Scioto) 1) Concern over Tournament brackets and sites. 2) Appeals process for double technical fouls?? District 11: Pete Liptrap (Pickerington North) - 1) Concerns over tournament sites and brackets 2) Selection of Tournament Officials District 12: Dan Schwieterman (Shenandoah) - None District 13: Norm Persin (Oak Hill) - None District 14: Doug Stiverson (Logan Elm) - Concern over tournament seeding procedures District Concern District 15: Pat Murphy (Lebanon) - Uniform seeding for all divisions across the state would like to have everyone seeded and common dates for the drawings. District 16: Joe Cambron (Milford) - Continue to pursue 22 games with no length added to the season GIRLS ADVISORY BOARD: Pat Pavlansky (Canfield), Art Daniels (Westlake), Dave Schlabach (Hiland), Ed Foulk (Kenton Ridge), Amy Taylor-Sheldon (Wynford), Dave Butcher (Pickerington North), Dennis Overstake (Greenfield McClain), Mary Jo Huismann (Mother of Mercy) 1) Mary Jo Huismann submitted a proposal that each district have a director and an asst. director, and both would attend meetings in March and October. They would represent each gender from their district. The committee also stated that attendance was down at the girl s state tournament. They suggested a more extensive mentoring program for girl s coaches across the state as well. Mary Jo Huismann also resigned her position as 15/16 representative and announced that Jill Phillips (Princeton HS) will be completing her term. 10. FUTURE MARCH MEETINGS Discussion was held about locations for next Year. Larry Wilson is checking on possibilities 11. WEBSITES President Wally Vickers offered a list of items that should be included on each site. 12. FORGIVENESS RULE A first reading was given about changing the policy for continuous years of membership in accordance with receiving longevity awards. 1 st Shoemaker 2 nd Birie to accept the first reading. This will be presented at the Division II Game. 21. HOF MUSEUM REPORT - Doc Daugherty The Quicken Loans Arena is offering space for the museum. This will take place when legislation approves the renovation of the building. Doc reminded everyone about the Annual Banquet coming up in May at the Columbus Convention Center. 22. OHSBCA Academic All-Ohio Individuals & Teams Tom Barrick Release Date: Week of April 12, i. Individuals: TBA at a later date ii. OHSBCA Gold/Silver Awards Doc Daugherty Doc stated there were 842 Gold and 913 Silver student/athletes honored this year. Avon Lake and Jackson had the most honorees with 19 student/athletes. He stated that he felt the increase was due to the forms being put on our webpage. 24. OHSBCA Top 20 Awards Art Daniels Top schools and individuals were reported and will be posted in future Hooplines. 25. OHSBCA Clinic Report Dave Krauss Clinic Dates for Next Year: Sept , 2010 at the Columbus Convention Center. 1) Dave reported on the past clinic 2) Expenses were itemized. 3) The profit for this year s clinic was $6, dollars The OHSBCA applauds his efforts and appreciates the fine job Dave does running our clinic. 27. COY/ and Mr./Ms. Basketball winners for Hooplines. b. Needs director s information by Thursday April 1, 2010 for Hooplines. c. The OHSBCA will have 3 pages in the state tourney programs listing our award winners, along with a HOF Paul Walker page. d. Get Larry & Pat all pictures and biographical sketches on time.

5 e. Stated that fall director reports to Hooplines are due September 1, 2010 f. Larry apologized for the room problems for this year s tournament. g. Larry would like a list of member schools that are in each district. He also reminded directors to try update their district websites. h. The Ohio Army National Guard agreed to pay for plaques for all players and coaches in the all-star games. They will also provide plaques for academic teams, plus pay for pizza parties for each team. They would like a table at our HOF banquet and a seat near the head table. i. He asked about the executive summer meeting dates and their location. The date was tentatively set for July 19, 2010 in Columbus. j. He offered price ranges and research he had done in regards for rooms for the State Tournament. Hyatt on Olentangy Blvd. was mentioned. k. Larry pointed out that contracts were ending with Capital in We should be thinking about future plans. l. Discussion was held about awards for 800 wins. It was agreed to present a Glass Trophy Award. 28. TOP 100 BOYS SHOWCASE Pat Carroll 1. When: April 17, Where: Capital University (Players should register beginning at 8:00am) 3. Deadline for Program Information/Alternates April 1, Send all additional information to Rich Louisville HS 5. The event will run similar to the past years. Everything is going smoothly. 6. Reversible practice jerseys, Coaches shirts and other expenses are being covered by Rawlings. 7. All players participating will pay a fee of $50.00 dollars 29. GIRLS TOP 100 SHOWCASE Dave Butcher 1. When: April 17, Where: Denison University 3. Rawlings will provide coaches shirts and practice jerseys. 4. Dave Butcher thanked the directors for names provided. 5.
