UIL Conference Numbers Released Taken from the Hillsboro Reporter While coaches across the state may not know who they will play in district starting in the fall of 2014, they know which area schools will be in their classification range. With major changes in the way schools are classified, the University Interscholastic League (UIL) has announced conference cutoff numbers early. School districts already knew that a Class 6A conference would be created and six-man would be considered Class A for realignment purposes. Larger schools in each district will compete in Division I and the smaller schools in Division II. For Hillsboro, that number was 458.5, which will put them in the new Class 3A for all sports and in Division I for football, which has an enrollment range from 315 to 464 students. Among the area schools that fall in that range with Hillsboro are Whitney, West, Glen Rose, Grandview, Clifton and McGregor, according to Hillsboro football Coach Mike Palmer. Most observers were expecting Godley to fall in with those schools, but with 488 students, they will jump to Class 4A-Division II. Other schools in District 7-3A include Venus going to Class 4A- Division II and Stephenville and Alvarado in Class 4A-Division 1. Itasca falls in Class 2A-Division I, and Hubbard will be in Class 2A-Division II. At the old six-man level, the maximum number of students allowed climbed from 99.9 to The divisional cutoff is 54 students. That left Blum, Abbott, Aquilla, Bynum, Covington, Mount Calm, Penelope and Milford in Class A- Division 1. Mount Calm missed going Division II by a half student after turning in 54.5 on its enrollment. Milford had been playing Division II, but enrollment grew to 60 students since the last realignment when it turned in 47 students. For the two largest conferences in the state, Class 5A and 6A, the top four schools from each district will continue to make the playoffs with the two with the largest enrollment in Division I and the two smaller in Division II. Realignments of districts for football and basketball will be announced by the UIL February 3.
