1 BELLEVUE PUBLIC SCHOOLS BPS Community News February 2018 BPS Lied Activity Center Swim Lessons **Attention** Registration Process The Lied Activity Center will have registration periods for families to sign up for our 3-12 years old swim lesson program. You will be able to choose the time and date of the session when you register during the dates listed below. Early sign ups are encouraged to ensure your desired time. Payment is due at the time of registration. Session 2: Registration Period February 12 March 4, 2018 Youth Swim Lessons (3-12 years old) Learn to swim while having fun with our trained instructors. We offer Pre-school (3-4 years old only) and levels one through six at the Lied Activity Center. All of our swim instructors are American Red Cross certified lifeguards. 2 LAC Youth Stroke Clinics Location: Cost: Time: BPS Lied Activity Center Pool $50 members; $70 non-members Mondays: 7:00 8:00 p.m. Dates: Session 2: Feb. 19, 26 & Mar. 5, 12, 19 Session 3: Apr. 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 Give your child a head start in competitive swimming today by enrolling in our Stroke Clinic. This stroke Clinic is designed for students who already have a solid foundation of the fundamentals of swimming and desire to learn more advanced swimming techniques. The classes put emphasis on proper technique over speed. Students will enhance their competitive strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly) with drills taught by our experienced instructors. In order to participate, students must meet 2 of the 3 following criteria: Must be able to swim 50 yards freestyle with rotary breathing continuously, without assistance Must be currently or previously enrolled in Level 5 or 6 swimming lessons Must be 11+ years old Aqua Tots (Children 6 36 months) Have fun in the pool with mom and dad. For tots that are ready to explore the aqua environment. Skills, games and water safety activities are included. Swim diapers are required for those not potty trained. Cost: $35 members; $55 non-members Wednesdays: 6:30 6:55 p.m. Session 2: Feb. 14, 21, 28 & Mar. 7, 14 Saturdays: 10:00 10:25 a.m. Session 2: Feb. 17, 24 & Mar. 3, 10, 17 Private Lessons Available / All Ages Cost: $110 members; $135 non-members Time/Dates: Classes consist of seven 30-minute sessions. 3 Swimming for Special Need Students Introduction to water safety and basic water skills in a pool environment. ISEC and preschool sessions. Cost: $95 members; $120 non-members Time/Dates: Classes consist of seven 30-minute sessions. Dates and times to be determined between instructor/student. Contact the Lied Activity Center at (402) Red Cross Lifeguard Class Must be 15 years old and must attend all 4 days. Cost is $175. Register at the BPS Lied Activity Center front desk. Classes are limited in number paid registrations are reserved a spot. March Class Registration due by February 25, 2018 Friday, March 2 from 7:00 p.m. 9:00 p.m. at Bellevue East Saturday, March 3 & Sunday, March 4 from 8:00 a.m. 7:00 p.m. at Bellevue East (with a lunch break) Red Cross Lifeguard/First Aid Review Class Cost is $100. 4 Youth Activities Indoor Soccer League (4 years old 4th Grade) Cost: Time $35 members; $55 non-members 4 years old Kindergarten: 6:00-7:00 p.m. or 7:00-8:00 p.m. (depends on league numbers) 1st & 2nd Grade: 6:00-7:00 p.m. or 7:00-8:00 p.m. (depends on league numbers) 3rd & 4th Grade: 6:00-7:00 p.m. or 7:00-8:00 p.m. (depends on league numbers) Dates: Tuesdays: Feb. 27, Mar. 6, 13, 20 & Apr. 3 (No league Mar. 27) The Lied Activity Center will be hosting a youth indoor soccer league. Registrations will be taken through February 18, or until teams are full, at the Lied Activity Center. Volunteers for head and assistant coaches for the teams are needed. Let us know if you are interested in coaching when you register for the program. No refunds after the second class. Basketball League (Grades K 2) Cost: Time: $35 members; $55 non-members Kindergarten: 6:00-7:00 p.m. 1st & 2nd Grade: 6:00-7:00 p.m. or 7:00-8:00 p.m. (depends on league numbers) Dates: Tuesdays: Apr. 10, 17, 24 & May 1, 8 Learn the basic of basketball. EHS has a home-based option, OR a centerbased option for families who are working or going to school. 15 2018-6th Annual Nebraska Black History Art Contest Open to Nebraska Students Grades K - 12 Gift baskets will be awarded to the winners in three categories: Elementary Middle/Junior High and High School Nebraska Black History Art Contest Here s how to enter: 1. Create art that truly commemorates and celebrates Black History. You may use any materials you want: canvas, pencil, paint, charcoal, crayon, marker, etc. 2. The contest is open to all Nebraska students, K-12. Winners will be judged in three categories Elementary School, Middle School and High School. Gift Baskets will be awarded to the winners in each category during a reception in April Rules: 1. Create any piece of original art, it could be a portrait or poster of a person or event that commemorates Black History. Use the attached canvas or one of your own.
