In the fight against dangerous climate change, Princeton leads the way in the fields of research and campus sustainability but is that enough? A growing student and alumni movement believes that Princeton s responsibility should extend to how the University manages its endowment. This group, Divest Princeton, contends that Princeton should divest from the 200 publicly traded companies that hold the vast majority of the world s proven coal, oil, and gas reserves, and therefore stop supporting those companies plans to extract their reserves. If burned, these reserves would result in potentially catastrophic levels of warming across the globe.
