Tickets are $10 and will be sold in the auditorium October 23rd thru Nov. 3rd and at the door if not sold out. Hawthorne s Got Talent: 10/17, 7:00 PM, Auditorium. Have a dance? A song? A routine? A skit? A piece of business? Calling all actors, dancers, singers, musicians, jokesters, comics, clowns, mimes and more to aid in our hurricane recovery by sharing your talent or group talents. No gongs no hooks. Your appreciative audience will aid in the recovery by donating non-perishables to the food bank. It has been given a new face-lift. Roy Whitehead worked his magic and renovated the window that is easier for the clubs to display their advertisement for their clubs or events. It looks amazing and thanks Roy, for your hard work. Typical of our volunteers here at Hawthorne. Thank you Roy. Bulletin Notice: All yellow half sheet Bulletin, Drum & TV98 Announcement forms must be in the Program Office by noon on the Friday before the next bulletin. Anything received after 12 noon will not be in the Bulletin. Thank you. Free Tennis Lesson: Sign-up at the Information Center for free tennis lessons. Bob Goodwin will contact you to arrange a date and time. Biloxi Trip: November 12, 2017 we still have seats available on our Biloxi Trip. $ each double occupancy with $ back in incentives. Please call Bud or Barb Frank Hawthorne Concert Series: Tickets for the entertaining season are on sale until Friday October 13th from 10 11:30 AM in the Auditorium. Season tickets are just $40. New this year is a Flex pack ($50) which includes 5 individual tickets that may be used at any concert October 2017 to March Flex pack will be available only for the month of October. See the flyer for additional options for tickets in support of the Concert Series. Archery: Starting in October the Archery range will be open daily from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Instructions will be on Fridays. Notice: All Activities that normally meet in the Hall, or Lemon and Lime rooms, will be pre-empted in the clubhouse on Tuesday, October 17, until 2:00 PM, due to the Activity Fair being held this day. Please plan to attend. The hours of the Activity Fair are 10:00 AM until 12 noon. Rummage Sale Shed #1: Located beside the woodworking shop, the shed will be open every Thursday beginning October 19, from 10:00 AM to noon. For pick-up of large items, please call or by Wednesday each week. Flu Shots at Hawthorne: Walgreen s pharmacist will be at Hawthorne on Wednesday 10/25 from 10:00 AM to 12 noon for residents to get their flu, pneumonia and shingles shots. Sign up at the Information Center. VFW POST #6389: The VFW will be selling American Flags. If you are interested please contact Frank Lupejkis at Mat Room: 10/31, 9:00 AM we are going to be removing everything n the mat room on 10/31 starting at 9 in the morning. If your activity has anything at all stored in this room, you must come down and Page 4 of 6

5 claim your items. Why! We are going to try to organize this room so that it works for veryone who has been assigned storage space in this room. Questions call Sylvia at VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: AARP Tax-Aide is in need of both tax preparers and client facilitators again this year, for the upcoming tax season. Hawthorne has been home to this all volunteer activity since at least Please consider volunteering, joining other Hawthorne and surrounding community volunteers. We operate out of the Hawthorne marina on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8 AM until noon, from the first of February until the end of tax season in April. Volunteers can work one to three days per week. Tax preparation is by appointment only. You would be joining a dedicated group of volunteers, both new and seasoned, providing federal tax preparation assistance to the residents of Hawthorne and the surrounding communities. Our volunteers are trained and certified by the IRS and AARP. Prior experience in tax preparations is not required but some computer skills are desired. We are sponsored by your local Hawthorne AARP Chapter If you would like to volunteer as either a counselor or a facilitator, you can sign up on the Information Center or stop by our table at the Activity Fair on October 17 th for more details. If it s time to update your dishwasher, some new models use less than 4 gallons per load. Water conservation is everyone s responsibility. 6 AARP Weekly Health Tip If you have high blood pressure and it is not managed well, it can double or quadruple your risk for stroke. Our nurses are available the 3rd Wednesday of each month at the AARP Health Screening to monitor your blood pressure for you. Come see us OCTOBER 18, 9:30-11 AM. A Safety Committee Tip Be sure to notify Park Security and the Administration office who they should contact when you are leaving for vacation or anytime you will be gone for an extended period of time. Vial of Life What is this? It is a handy vial that contains your emergency contact and medical information. This vial can speak for you in the case of an emergency. Fill out the sheet and place back into vial place it in your refrigerator where our EMT s will look if they need it. Keep one in your car while traveling too! Pick up your vial in the clubhouse the container holding vials is located on the cabinet shelf near the ticket table set up.
