At the March meeting, your Leadership Team decided: Reports & Deadlines All deadlines and due dates for reporting were reviewed and will be realigned to work more effectively with our fall State Conference. President Dianne appointed a committee to review, evaluate and revise our reporting process, especially the Yearly Activity and Service Report. Ruth Clifton, VP with Reports and Recognition responsibility will Chair. Committee members are Pat Wickliff, VP Community Service; Wanda Denning, President- elect; Bess Hester- Whitt, Liaison Agent Person County; and Linda Jozwiakowski, Gaston County ECA Past- president. This committee is charged with looking at what we report, why we report it and how is the information used. The Centennial Celebration will be held at McKimmon Center on October 26, 2013 and will include a reception and dedication of the garden memorial bricks and a Legacy Luncheon. The 2013 State Conference follows the first part of that week. The hotel selection is under way! Prayers Needed Please keep our President, Dianne Brown and her family in your thoughts and prayers. Her stepson was working on a construction site in Bryson City and fell 18 feet off scaffolding. He has extensive injuries--skull fracture, facial lacerations, collapsed artery leading to his brain, broken scapula, broken wrist, lacerated spleen and kidney. He is in Memorial Hospital in Asheville. We re going to Celebrate! We are planning to compile a Centennial Report. You will receive a special report form for reporting major activities and projects over the last 100 years. We would also encourage each county to write their own ECA history, if you did not do so for the FCS Centennial! In planning for the 100 th year celebration, the Outreach Committee would like to provide a DVD for each county with interviews from our ECA members past, present and even future (grandchildren), all across the state. You need not make a trip to Raleigh! We will attempt to get this recorded in your area. Everyone will receive the same initial questions to answer before filming and if you wish, time to tell your personal story. This will be so exciting to hear from our oldest members and contrast this will younger women and even folks that have benefited from our organization. These individuals may not be members but have been touched in some way by our ECA clubs. You may register with me (E- mail- jkluttz4@carolina.rr.com or ) or during your District Day. I look forward to receiving a multitude of registrations! We want our celebration to be SPECIAL FOR EVERYONE and it will take YOU to make this happen.

2 entennial ent$ For the next two years (2012 & 2013), we will be collecting loose change in observance of the 100 th birthday of ECA! These $$ can be sent to Faye Lanier, Appointed Treasurer. You may also continue to collect Pennies for Friendship for ACWW if your club wishes. In 1951, members starting contributing $2.50 each toward a dream house to serve as a center for association activities. In 1966, $100,000 seed money was given to NCSU toward building McKimmon Center. That is $10,000 per year for 10 years!! What can we collect in 2 years as we prepare for our centennial? Master FCS Volunteer is a certification program for ECA members where members will receive valuable up-to-date training to become an integral part of the FCS information network. To be certified, members will attend 14 required leadership classes and choose 3 elective classes. Once certified, a Master FCS Volunteer will serve as a valuable resource to FCS educators and/or may opt to pursue additional specialized training, such as Master Food Preservation, Master Financial Planning, etc. Like NC ECA on Girls Haven, the girls cottages at Boys and Girls Homes at Lake Waccamaw will continue to be a project of NCECA. Over the years our participation has decreased and now they really need our help. We encourage counties to continue to collect contributions for the Girls cottages and take a field trip to visit and deliver the items. Gary Greene is Director of Development and Civic Club Activities Manager. He may be reached at , ext Gary is a wealth of information... call him and schedule a visit! (2012SR 10) Many NCECA members have made friends with others around the state, through State Conferences, District Days and many redistrictings. They are interested in knowing when a friend passes, rather than ask about them and be embarrassed to hear of the passing. Wilma S. Hammett for the informative talk on the Centennial coming up in 2013 and showing us a sample of "memory brick, and Dee Furlough for speaking to us on the upcoming State Conference. Mrs. Madelyn Long of Perquimans County was not able to attend District Day but sent an announcement: " I have been a member of the Bethel Extension Club for 60 years! Their theme is "COME GROW WITH US March 28, We'll all be looking forward to it! Beaufort County We have some wonderful Ladies in our club (called the '76er's). They are in their 80's and 90's and have been the back bone and life-support for the ECA in Beaufort County for many years. They are an inspiring group. Even with their age-related and other health problems they have kept going. Daughters of some of these ladies have joined to give support where needed. Beaufort County hosted the Northeast ECA District Day, March 29th, 2012, at the Vernon James Center. We have a lot of bridges crossing over a lot of water in eastern North Carolina, so our topic was: "Building Bridges in ECA'. The topic is really about "building" friendships through the ECA. I have seen some of this "building" going on. If you have done this friendship "building" and you value those friends then you understand the concept. Pasquotank County Deb Witherow, Faye Meads, Georgine Armstrong, Nancy Sawyer and Brenda Simpson made glass etched flower on mirrors for speaker gift baskets to be presented at NC ECA State Council in October. We will all be hostesses/volunteers at the state meeting as Northeast District is responsible for the series of events at the Rocky Mount Hilton. The North Carolina Extension & Community Association Foundation is committed to acquiring and managing resources that enhance families through the development of volunteer leadership and support of educational programs on the local, district and state levels. There are advantages for ECA Clubs/County/District Councils to place funds in the NC ECA foundation: 1) The funds are covered by the Ag Foundation s 501c3, therefore protected from IRS scrutiny. 2) The Foundation provides accounting and record keeping, yearly audits and required IRS reporting. 3) You retain control over how your funds can be used. 4) Any profits made by the ECA Foundation from your account will be used to benefit and grow ECA programs. Club members of the year were honored with a crown and special certificate: Teen ECA Club - Rachel Furlough Young ECA Club - Ashlee King Creeks ECA Club - Julie Brickhouse Columbia ECA Club - Nan Liverman Mature ECA Club - Lottie Roughton Also recognized were Club Presidents/Leaders: Teen and Creeks ECA Club - Melanie Armstrong Young ECA Club - Ashlee King Columbia ECA Club - Nan Liverman Mature ECA Club - Peggy Godwin Abby Sparks was congratulated on a job well done serving as the 2011 NCECA State President and Nan Liverman was recognized for winning the Northeast Leadership Award during the NCECA State Council Conference.
