5 Sew Powerful Purse Project Girls in poor areas of the world miss six to eight weeks of school each year because they lack feminine hygiene products. Providing these products reduces absenteeism by 75%. This is key for social change for women all over the world. Staying in school can help to break the cycle of poverty. Sew Powerful has designed a purse just large enough to hold reusable feminine hygiene products, locally sourced soap and underwear. These purses are distributed in local schools and clinics in Lusaka Zambia as part of the Menstruation Hygiene Management program. The purse and its contents along with health education information provide a lasting change in the lives of the adolescent girls. PURSE KITS ARE STILL AVAILABLE. The cut out purse pieces, elastic and instructions have been put into a kit. All you need to do is supply the thread and sew the purse. Contact Mary Reese (x6319), her at mary.reese@alverno.edu or stop by AF 208 for a kit. ****Patterns are available if you would like to use your own fabric. **** DEADLINE FOR COMPLETING A PURSE IS JANUARY 21, 2016.
