The heartfelt acceptance speeches and the cherished memories shared by the inductees truly made this evening a night of memories, laughs, tears, and standing ovations. Saturday, March 28, 2015, marked the 33rd Annual Banquet and Induction of the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame. The University of Michigan and the M.H.S.F.C.A. have worked hand in hand, for over 30 years, to recognize outstanding Michigan high school coaches. From 1983 through 2009 the celebration was held at either Crisler Arena or the Track and Field Building on the U of M campus. In 2010, The Sheraton Ann Arbor Hotel has set the scene and has been more than gracious hosts. The ambiance in which all was presented and the excellent food that was enjoyed by all, once again, provided an exceptional evening for over 470 in attendance. The largest in attendance since moving to our new venue. In 1983, Head Coach "Bo" Schembechler introduced Woody Hayes as the guest speaker for the evening. Ara Parseghian, Duffy Daugherty, George Perles, Jim Harkema, and Herb Deromedi, all former head coaches at major universities have highlighted the evening. Also, University of Michigan head football coaches "Bo" Schembechler, Gary Moeller, Lloyd Carr, Rich Rodriguez, and Brady Hoke have given the main address. Many assistant coaches of the Michigan Wolverines have also been guest speakers. This great tradition was once again highlighted by the presence of the 20th Head Football Coach of the Michigan Wolverines, Coach Jim Harbaugh. Coach Harbaugh had everyone listening to his positive insights about coaching. His emphasis was not on just the wins and losses and but on the importance of what football coaches can have on young men, their families, the community, and on the future of these young individuals whom they coach. The University of Michigan is extremely proud to be a part of this event emphasizing the importance of the M.H.S.F.C.A. and High School Football in the State of Michigan. Executive Director Larry Merx began the evening by giving an overview of the of the association and highlighting the new and exciting Wall of Fame and the Virtual Hall of Fame" which are now displayed and available to all Michigan High School Football Fans. The Wall of Fame is prominently displayed at the University of Michigan Football Stadium, The Big House, and the Virtual Hall of Fame, is up and running on the M.H.S.F.C.A. web site. (mhsfca.com) Ed Greenman, retired head coach at Battle Creek Harper Creek High School, and President of the M.H.S.F.C.A. welcomed everyone to the Hall of Fame Banquet and Induction. "Tonight you will hear about the achievements, awards, and accomplishments of the members of this induction class. While impressive and well deserved, their biggest impact is far more important than any victory or championship. The lifelong lessons they have taught, such as

5 May 2015 MHSFCA NEWSLETTER Page 5 teamwork, dedication, hard work, honesty, and commitment, are most important. They have led by a positive example and will leave behind a legacy that they, their families, and communities will always be proud of." This was the 33rd Annual Induction. Including this year's inductees, the M. H. S. F. C. A. has inducted 700 of the finest high school football coaches in the state of Michigan into the Hall of fame, and each induction has a personality all its own. Many constants remain the same to make this an exceptional evening for the inductees, their families and friends. One such constant is the dedication of the members of the association who see too the many details that go into organizing, maintaining, and preparing for the evening. They, behind the scenes, give their time and energy, with no thanks needed, to maintain and preserve the tradition and integrity of the Hall of Fame. Another constant is the inductees are men of achievement and integrity, who give credit to their families, their players, their fellow coaches, and their communities for their success. Fourteen outstanding individuals. Their names and credentials will be enshrined forever in the M.H.S.F.C.A. Hall of Fame and displayed at the University of Michigan s Football Stadium. They coached for over 487 seasons, won more than 2,997 football games, but most of all, touched the lives of countless individuals. The inductees expressed their love of coaching and their love of football. They recognized those, their families, who have made it possible for them to do what they love coach football. The 33rd Annual M. H. S. F. C. A. Hall of Fame Induction and Banquet was once again a truly remarkable evening. Congratulations to the Inductees: The Class of The Best of the Best and the Finest of the Finest. Dear MHSFCA Members: Notes MHSFCA Members: The loss of my father has been the most humbling experience of my life. However, through this tragedy, I now know how many lives my father has touched and how truly loved he was. With that being said, I would like to thank the association for not only this monetary gift, but also for their thoughts, prayers and the acknowledgements of my father s legacy. I truly appreciate everything this association has done for me and my family and I thank you all so much. I hope to meet and see all of you at the Hall of Fame banquet. I just wanted to say thanks from myself and my family for a memorable night----the impact it had on my children is incredible. It also gave me a chance to have Coach Cook, my old boss, share the weekend with us. Again, from all of us, thank you so very much!! Bob Czarnecki Trenton High School Sincerely, Eiyesha K. 12 May 2015 MHSFCA NEWSLETTER Page Border Classic Update ith the game just two months away preparations are heating up both on the field and off. Our roster has been completed and it is safe to say that there will not be a shortage of talent representing the state of Michigan on June 13th. Our coaching staff consisting of Terry Hessbrook (Ithaca), Craig Snyder (Ithaca), Gary Griffith (Troy), Tony Miller (Clarkston), Drake Wilkins (Madison), and Jim Ahern (Lansing Catholic) have done a tremendous job of evaluating talent and assembling this year s team. I would like to extend a special thank you to all of the coaches from across the state that recommended players for the 2015 edition of team Michigan. The continued success of this game is dependent upon the support of our membership. The 2015 team was introduced at the annual press conference held at the Hall of Fame Café in East Lansing. Once again this was a great event that was well attended by the coaches, players, and families of 2015 team Michigan. The highlight of this event is when the coaches finally get to put faces to the names on the roster. The fact that so many family members attend the event always guarantees that the room will be filled with pride and enthusiasm. Upon leaving the press conference it was obvious that our team is already unified to achieve the goals of making this year s game an experience of a lifetime and to beat Ohio! Jim Sparks MHSFCA All Star committee chair As the calendar turned to March it was time to get down to some football. The content of our coaches meeting changed from player evaluation to some real X s and O s. After many hours of meetings and hashing out terminology and personnel groupings it was time to take it to the field. Thanks to our friends at the Legacy Center in Brighton we were able to conduct our first team walkthrough in a state of the art facility. The players and coaches made it very obvious why they were selected as All Stars. The practice was planned out with the greatest attention to detail and the players gave a great effort for the duration of the practice. Our first walkthrough has laid the groundwork for success on the field and has allowed this group of individuals to begin the process of becoming a team. In the days that lie ahead we will have two more walkthroughs at Detroit Country Day made possible by our good friend and MHSFCA supporter Dan MacLean as well as the rest of the DCD community. Our coaches and players are committed to really working hard to represent football in our great state. I encourage everybody to do their part and join us June 13th at Wayne State University. Let s make sure we have a true home field advantage as our team takes the field. Be sure to check com for the latest news associated with this year s game. Enjoy your spring time in Michigan and I will see you at the game. BEAT OHIO! Team Michigan Head Coach, Terry Hessbrook, talks with his team at the Legacy Center Team Michigan practice in April.
