The council consists of seven members that you elect to a one year term. You can nominate a candidate, or volunteer yourself to be a candidate, by writing the name on the list on the hallway bulletin board. Candidates must be 60 years or older, live in Garland and be an active participant in some activity at the center. Contact D Aun at or ask any current council representatives for more information. Choctaw Casino Wed, Sept 16 - $20 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Site Council Fundraiser Help the senior centers raise money, and try your luck. Space is limited. Register today to reserve your spot. Cowboy Watching Party Sun, Oct 11-3 p.m. Come on down to the Senior Activity Center and watch our Dallas Cowboys take on the New England Patriots. Kick- off is at 3:25. Bring your favorite snack or finger food to share with others. The Site Council will provide the drinks. Amish Quilt Show Must register by Sept 4! Sat, Sept 12 - $ a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Travel back in time to the Amish settlement in Clarita, Oklahoma. Each year an auction is held to raise money for their school. The beautiful quilts are a wonder to see. Cost includes transportation and water on the bus. Snacks and lunch will be on your own. Open Mic Night Fri, Nov 13, 7 p.m. This is your chance to be a star. If you have a story or joke to tell, a song to sing, an instrument to play, a poem to read or any other hidden talent just call Kenny and get on the list. Whether you are a seasoned professional or a new comer that wants to perform for the first time in front of a small audience, come join the fun. She has performed in Las Vegas and New York, at countless theaters across the country, and was featured on both Good Morning Texas and Good Morning Tulsa. Why We Use a Waitlist Just because you are asked if you would be like to be placed on our waitlist, doesn t mean you ve missed out on the trip. Often times we can upgrade to a bigger bus, add a second bus, buy more tickets, or even book a second trip in order to accommodate all of our guests. But we don t know to do that unless we have a waitlist. So please, don t hesitate to join the waitlist if you are really hoping to go on the trip that is full. On a limited basis, free transportation to both senior program locations is available to seniors, age 60 and older, living in the city of Garland, who participate in the nutrition program. Meals are served Monday through Friday at 11:30 a.m. The cost is only a small, suggested and anonymous donation. There is paperwork that must be completed before being able to participate in the program. Please call if you have any questions. This service is supported, in part, by the Dallas Area Agency on Aging (DAAA), the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS), and Dallas County. GSAC Now Has Free Wi-Fi!
