University of Wisconsin Eau Claire University Recreation & Sport Facilities INTRAMURAL SPORTS POLICIES PROGRAM DESCRIPTION The Intramural Program at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire is designed to provide an opportunity for every student to participate in organized recreational competition. DIVISIONS *Men s *Women s *Co-Rec: Competition is open to anyone who is eligible under UR rules, and teams consist of a combination of men and women. **UR reserves the right to combine leagues in the event there are not enough teams to form a league.** HOW TO REGISTER All Intramural registration materials are available at the University Recreation office in Hilltop Center and in Davies Center approximately one week prior to the registration period. Registration takes place for one week and all team registrations take place on-line. The only information required to register a team are the team members addresses or Blugold ID numbers. No entries will be complete without the designated entry fee. Entry fees must be received by the entry deadline date to ensure participation. All inappropriate team names will be changed without notification. CAPTAIN S MEETINGS Each intramural activity has a scheduled captain s meeting before regular season play begins. Every team must have a representative at the meeting to assure playing status. The meeting will cover information on schedules, rescheduling procedures, forfeits, inclement weather procedures, disciplinary actions, protests, checking of ID s, and any special rules. Dates, times, and sites of the captain s meetings will be provided during the registration period. Failure to attend will result in the team being charged with a forfeit. Teams may also be dropped from competition if there is another team on a waiting list and available to play in that time slot. Entry fees will not be refunded.
FREE AGENTS (INDIVIDUALS LOOKING FOR TEAMS TO PLAY ON) Individuals may add their name to the Free Agents list located on the Intramural information board in Hilltop Center. This list will be made available to all teams looking for additional players at the captain s meeting. PLAYING SCHEDULES A captain or team representative may pick up schedules immediately after the captains meeting, or in the UR office the next day if they are unable to attend the captain s meeting. SEASON PLAY SIX TEAM LEAGUES Each team will play a minimum of five games. Leagues are round robin meaning you will play each team in your league once. Each league champion will receive Recreation Championship T-Shirts and Mugs. Champions will be determined by: (1)best record (2)head to head competition if there is a two way tie (3)least points given up in the games involving the teams that are tied if three or more teams are tied. FOUR TEAM LEAGUES Each team will play a minimum of five games. The first three will be round robin meaning you will play each team in your league once. The fourth game will be a seeded playoff and the fifth game will either be for the championship or for third place. Each league champion will receive Recreation Championship T-Shirts and Mugs. Seedings for the fourth week will be determined by: (1)best record (2)head to head competition if there is a two way tie (3)least points given up in the games involving the teams that are tied if three or more teams are tied. THE FOLLOWING POLICIES HAVE BEEN ESTABLISHED TO PROVIDE THE BEST CONDITIONS FOR UWEC STUDENTS, FACULTY, AND STAFF. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF EVERY INTRAMURAL PARTICIPANT TO BE FAMILIAR WITH THESE POLICIES AND ADHERE TO THEM THROUGHOUT COMPETITION. EACH TEAM CAPTAIN WILL BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR KNOWING AND ENFORCING ALL INTRAMURAL POLICIES. ELIGIBILITY All students who are matriculated, registered, and pay UWEC tuition for classes on the Eau Claire campus are eligible to participate in UR activities during that semester. CVTC students may participate in Intramural activities provided they live on campus. Students who are student teaching or in off-campus internships are also eligible. Anyone considered a faculty/staff member or spouses of faculty/staff or students are eligible. VARSITY ATHLETES
A varsity squad member is defined as a person who has practiced or competed with any intercollegiate team after the team has played its first regular season game. They may not participate in their respective or parallel intramural sport. A former varsity player in a team sport may participate in their respective sport BUT teams are limited to one (1) former varsity player per roster. Parallel Sports Volleyball Basketball Soccer Softball-Baseball Flag Football-Tackle Football Roller Hockey-Ice Hockey Individual or dual sport varsity players from any four year institutions are permanently ineligible in their respective parallel sport. SPORT CLUB ATHLETES A sport club athlete is defined as any individual who has paid dues to a sport club, participates with a sport club in extramural competition, or has practiced regularly at any time during the last academic year with the club. Team sport club members will be eligible to participate in the sport of their specialty but will be limited to one (1) current OR former club player per intramural team. Individual/dual sport club members are eligible for their respective or parallel sport. The Intramural Director may make exceptions for specific leagues. FACULTY/STAFF An individual is considered a faculty/staff member if recognized that way by their institution. PROFESIONAL ATHLETES Any Student who is disqualified from any intercollegiate sport because of professional status shall not be eligible for that intramural sport or corresponding intramural sports. ELIGIBILTY SANCTIONS An ineligible participant is one who does not meet all eligibility requirements, or has been suspended from intramural play. A team using an ineligible player shall forfeit any contest which uses that ineligible player. ASSUMED NAME An assumed name situation occurs when a player does not use his or her own name when participating in intramural activities. Any player competing under an assumed name will be ineligible for intramural competition for the rest of the current semester. A team captain using a player under an assumed name is responsible for this action, and the sanctions stated above shall also apply to him or her. RESCHEDULING Rescheduling requests will only be honored for rainouts or with the prior approval of the Intramural Director in emergency situations.
RESPONSIBILITY Players are responsible for their own eligibility. Team captain s are also responsible for the eligibility of their players. ROSTER LIMITATIONS All sport participants must be enrolled at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire and registered by roster through the University Recreation Department; or be a faculty/staff member affiliated with UWEC. NO ALUMNI MAY PARTICIPATE! All team sports will follow an unlimited roster policy for the first four (4) weeks of play. Beginning with the fifth (5 th ) week of play all rosters will be final and no additions may be made. New players may attend a game and be added to a roster as long as they have their UWEC Blugold ID with them. UR will verify their eligibility the next day. If they are not currently enrolled, a member of the University Staff, or a spouse of either, the game will be a forfeit. To be eligible for the playoffs/tournament of champions a player must have played in at least one regular season game for the playoff team. Every team member must present a valid UWEC Blugold picture ID card to the game official before the game begins. Acceptable valid UWEC Blugold cards are student ID cards or faculty/staff cards ONLY. Lack of proper ID will prohibit the player from participating. INDIVIDUALS MAY ONLY PARTICIPATE ON A MAXIMUM OF FOUR (4) TEAMS PER SEASON PER SPORT. FORFEITS Any team forfeiting a contest must have the captain contact the UR office by 4 pm of the next business day. Failure to do this may result in the team being dropped from further competition. Teams forfeiting a game will not be allowed to participate in post-season play. Any team forfeiting two games will be dropped from competition automatically. Any team may be charged with a forfeit for unsportsmanlike conduct. If neither team shows up for a game both will be charged with a loss by forfeit. DEFAULTS A team unable to attend a game may default their contest if they notify the UR office twenty-four (24) hours in advance of the scheduled game time. Sunday games must be defaulted by noon. A default will result in a loss for the team but will have no effect on playoff eligibility. PROTESTS If a rule has been violated which affects the event outcome, only team captain s may file a protest. The captain must; upon occurrence of the discrepancy, immediately inform the official that he or she wishes to put the game under protest. The captain must also file a protest form (which may be picked up from the IM Supervisor on duty or the UR office). The protest form must fully explain the protest, and be returned to the Intramural Director by 4:30 p.m. of the next business day. THE OFFICIAL S JUDGEMENT OR INTERPRETATION OF A PLAYER S ACTION DOES NOT CONSTITUTE
GROUNDS FOR PROTEST. An eligibility protest may be filed by anyone throughout the season. AWARDS Intramural champion T-Shirts and mugs will be awarded to all league champions for all activities in which champions are determined. A SPORTSMANSHIP RATING OF 6 OR ABOVE IS REQUIRED TO WIN A LEAGUE. DISCIPLINARY ACTION If a player is ejected from a game for any reason, the official or supervisor will document the reason for the ejection on a daily report. Once on report a player must meet with the Intramural Director before being reinstated. Anyone ejected for fighting or striking an official will be automatically suspended for a minimum of one (1) game. They must meet with the Intramural Director before being reinstated. INJURIES AND INSURANCE Everyone participating in the Intramural program is at his or her own risk, and is responsible for his or her own dental and medical insurance. University Recreation encourages all students to carry adequate health and dental insurance. Any injury sustained during intramural activities should be reported immediately to the Intramural Supervisor on duty. We ask for your full cooperation in following instructions regarding conduct, proper use of equipment and facilities, and adherence to the rules of a particular activity as established by university Recreation. PARTICIPANT CONDUCT Vulgar, obscene, abusive, derogatory and demeaning comments and gestures are not consistent with the environment Intramural Sports desires. Such comments and behavior create a hostile environment, generate ill-will, place unnecessary pressure on participants, and contribute to a negative recreational experience. Therefore, such actions will not be tolerated in Intramural Sports. Violators will face suspension or expulsion from the program. Serious incidents or repeat abuses will be subject to additional sanctions under the UWEC Code of Conduct. SPECTATOR POLICY The role of the spectators is to provide support and encouragement which will be beneficial to the participants and the Intramural Sports Program. Spectators must remain in their designated areas and may not enter the playing areas. Spectators violating these guidelines or exhibiting unsportsmanlike conduct will be asked to leave the playing facility and their team may be assessed additional penalties. JEWELRY Absolutely no jewelry may be worn during Intramural sports. Any exposed piercing must be taped. No hats or barrettes are allowed. ALCOHOL POLICY We will not tolerate the use of alcohol during any University Recreation event. If we suspect the use of alcohol, we will immediately call the University Police. There will be individual repercussions considered for each situation.
WEATHER LINE Assume games are on and will be played under most weather conditions. Call AFTER 4:30 p.m. No decisions will be made until that time!
