1 Mohawk Post No.1450 AMERICAN LEGION Vol. 46 P.O. BOX 4149 HALFMOON, NY (518) / JAN / FEB 2018 COMMANDERS MESSAGE First-Off, Mega-Thanx to the Weekly-Football Crew and all those who participated in funding, our Brandy-New / Bigger TV s, to greatly enhance the viewing experience for all us older-folk!!! Ya know, I was thinking the other night (which is usually prettydangerous) about how each of us sees the world through a different lens For instance, take the expression Happy Holidays For some, that expression probably just conjures-up childhood memories of a department store Santa, or emptying their Stockings, or opening a favorite toy on X-Mas morning But, for those with military experience, our memories are a little more Vivid, and maybe just a little more Meaningful. When we say: I remember, our eyes may get wider, or maybe our tone a little more somber We might chuckle a little, or burst into laughter We may just smile, or sigh, or even shed a tear Because some of Our Happy-Holidays include a memory of being away from the ones we love. Perhaps you spent it in the jungle, or working the flight-line, or alone in the barracks. You might have been on-watch at sea, or moored alongside the pier in a foreign port. Some were lucky enough to get a phone-call, a letter or a care package, others maybe nothing at all. For our loved ones, Their Happy-Holidays were spent gazing at an empty chair, or looking through pictures from the last time we were together. All the while, waiting & wondering when or If we d ever be together again Plus, we realize that right-now, as we are reading this, many others are Still living our memories all over the world As always, please find time each and every day to give thanks and remembrance to all of our men and women in Uniform and their families left behind, who are currently engaged in personal sacrifice to guarantee our Freedom. Happy Holidays!!!
