Dinner will be at 6:00pm with the meeting at 7:00pm. The Executive Committee meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at 6:30 PM There is a critical need for Bingo workers. We have lost several volunteers and really need help!! Please volunteer, even if you can only spend a few hours with us. Please call Mike Peats at We really need help!!!!! Jack-Pot Bingo!!! We especially need workers for Wednesdays. Call Mike Peats at (985) Game times Wednesday night at 7:30pm and Friday Morning at 10:00am. Regular winners are $200 per game --- Jackpots $1000 Progressive Jackpots Maximum $6000 with 50 balls or less. Workers need to be there at least 1 hour earlier. 2 Commander s Remarks: As 2011 comes to an end I believe Post 16 has truly been blessed. Even with lower bingo revenue, we are still able to make donations to help Veterans in our community. We ve increased our programs at our local schools. We gave out all our School Awards and J.R.O.T.C. Awards, along with all 8 of our Post Scholarships and an increased number of Flag Etiquette classes and Flag Dedications. We also operated all our other Post programs. We raised enough money to help 7 needy families this Christmas. We also provided gifts and a meal for more than 30 special needs kids. I want to thank all members of Post 16, Unit 16 and Squadron 16 that gave of their self during 2011 to see that all Post programs, functions, parties and meetings were a success. I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas and that 2012 will be a healthy and happy year for all. I pray in 2012, God will continue to Bless Post 16 so we can continue to serve the Veterans and Children of our community. For God and Country Stacy L. Miller, Post Commander Important Notice Membership dues: If dues are not paid by February 1, the member is suspended, but nevertheless a member with no privilege except that of reinstatement by vote of the post and payment of dues; and dues not being paid, such membership continues for a period of five months, to June 30, at which time the member is dropped from the roll by constitutional mandate and the membership is forfeited. This is from the National Constitution and By-Laws. After February 1 any member that has not paid their 2012 dues will not be allowed to attend post meetings and be part of conducting post business. Any business conducted with a suspended member voting could be challenged and I m not going to allow that to happen. Bring your membership card to meetings because you will be asked for it in the future. POST MEMBERSHIP: 2012 Cards are now available!!! Dues are now $30!!! 1st Vice Commander Bill Rosevally reported that Post 16 membership for 2012 stands just under 386 paid up members for 90%. The membership year runs from January 1st to December 31st each year. PUFL (Paid Up For Life) membership is available and on the time payment plan, Ask about it! We urge anyone who wishes to donate $5 to any of these programs and receive a Lapel Pin to show your support, (or all if so desired), please contact any 40/8 Officer. Casino Trip; VL 224 now has tickets available for our 2 day Casino trip, February Tickets are $55 per person and entitles the holder to round-trip bus ride, room for one night, $25 gaming credit, and $10 breakfast buffet.!! Burns American Legion Post 16 visited Lee Road Junior High School on Thursday, December 8th, The purpose of this visit was to present the 3rd Grade class of Ms. Rachel Champaign with some pins in recognition of their dedication to Americanism. Present at the visit were the following: Chef de Gare Mike Peats, Voiture locale 224 of the 40 & 8. Halbon Terry Sharp - Louisiana State Vice Commander American Legion, Clint Lounsbury Captain Post 16 Honor Guard. The parents and grandparents of the students were also present. Vice Commander Sharp first gave a brief talk about the American Legion Pillar of Americanism. Chef de Gare Peats described the Americanism program within the 40&8. Vice Commander Sharp presented each classmate with a Louisiana State Commanders Pin from Mr. Larry Abshire. Chef de Gare Peats presented each classmate with an Americanism Pin from the 40&8. The 40&8 and the American Legion wish to express our appreciation for the efforts and dedication of the 3rd Grade class of Ms. Rachel Champaign in performing the United States Flag Detail for the Lee Road School. Abita Elementary School Robert H. Burns American Legion Post 16 donated twelve classroom and one outside flag to the Abita Elementary School on Tuesday, November 28, This was to replace a worn outside flag and provide new classroom flags to classrooms without them. Present at the donation were L to R, Betty McArthur President Unit 16, Rebecca Stogner Principal Abita Elementary and Michael Peats Past Post 16 Commander.

4 Adult Christmas Party On December 10, 2011 we held our Adult Christmas Party. We had many Legionnaires and Auxiliary members present. There was plenty of good food brought in by everyone. The Post provided the turkey and ham. We played games with lots of fun and laughs for everyone there. Many thanks to those that helped cut up the turkey and ham to get it ready for everyone. Our Legion Family eating our delicious meal Talented plate passers playing this popular game Good Samaritan Nursing Home On December 18,2011 members of Post 16 brought Christmas gifts to 6 Veterans living at the nursing home. Present was Cmdr. Stacy Miller and wife Gwen, Dept. Vice Cmdr. Terry Sharp and Sgt-at-Arms David Rice. Terry Sharp with five Veterans in the Chapel. 5 Needy Family Christmas Post 16 was able to raise enough money this year to help seven families. We were able to identify these families through our local schools and churches. This has really been a gratifying program which started four years ago and spearheaded by Past Post Commander Mike Peats. Post 16 members delivered presents and food baskets on December 22, Present were: Mike Peats, David Rice, Betty McArthur, May Hartley and Commander Stacy Miller. 6 Special needs Christmas On December 3, 2011 Auxiliary Unit 16 held our special needs Christmas party and had over 30 kids on hand to greet Santa and Mrs. Claus. After eating a meal all got to meet Santa and receive a gift. We had many Legion and Auxiliary members on hand to help and to enjoy these kids. Thanks to the Auxiliary for their hardwork. 7 Christmas Bingo On Christmas evening we held a bingo session with 151 players on hand. We also had many of our regular workers on hand: Mike Peats, Clint Lounsbury, Robert DeBrock, Rick Sunders, James & Phyllis Livermore, Bill & Frances Rosevally, David Rice and Terry Charrier. Other members that came out to work were: Terry Sharp, Stacy & Gwen Miller. Clint Lounsbury calling this session Some of our Christmas Bingo Players Post Honor Guard In 2011 our Post Honor Guard has been very busy providing honors for many local Veterans funeral and memorial services. Also provided honors at the dedication of the Justin McLeese memorial at Covington High School. They conducted Flag dedications and Flag etiquette classes at several schools in our area. They represent Post 16 with Honor and dedication. Great job. Honor Guard Commander Clint Lounsbury: The Honor Guard meets on the 2 nd Monday of each month starting at 4:00 PM. The Post Honor Guard represents all veterans in this area. Families of veterans need to be informed of our services. The Honor Guard will meet on Monday, January 9, 2012 at 4:00 PM at the Post. The Honor Guard continues to accept new members who are willing to spend the time and effort required to perform requested duties. We invite you to come join us. The Military Order of the Purple Heart The Ladies Auxiliary of the Military Order of the Purple Heart welcomes a new members to Northshore Unit 741. Mrs. Carol Lance, Past National President of the LAMOPH. Carol brings an enormous amount of knowledge to our Purple Heart family. Welcome aboard Carol!
