1 FP Newsletter For Critical Care Paramedics December 2012 From the President Looking back, I stand in disbelief at the whirlwind of activity during AMTC Seattle was, by all measures, a resounding success with record attendance and unseasonably mild weather. I hope that all who attended enjoyed this AMTC, and I look forward to visiting Virginia Beach next year. I would also like to share a bit about myself as your new President of the IAFCCP, so that you have an idea of who will be helping to guide your association over the next year. As a paramedic, I have worked for over 17 years in various settings, starting my career working for Mercy Flights, a private nonprofit air and ground ambulance service in Medford, Oregon. Building on the support I received there, my career has included working in a hospital-based system in Miami, Florida; working as a paid firefighter/paramedic in Ashland, Oregon; and until recently taking on Government Affairs, I worked as Clinical Educator for PHI Air Medical in California. I feel that these experiences have given me a broader view of our community, with hopefully) a better understanding of the complexities of our shared profession. My family is a top priority for me, and my wife and I are dedicated to raising our children to appreciate their family, their education, and the world around them. My ability to be successful in my career is a direct reflection of the support that I have received from my immediate and extended) family. Thank you for giving me your support in leading our association forward over the next year, and beyond. During the Board meeting at AMTC, we voted to move forward with fund-raising activities, to ensure the ongoing financial and logistical stability of your association. Please stay tuned to the IAFCCP website, FPNews, the Air Medical Journal, Cont d on page 2 IAFCCP Board of Directors
2 From the President Continued and News with a View, so that you are in the loop on these upcoming fun and exciting events. As part of this, your board members also voted to name Toby Witt, IAFCCP Past President, to fill the remainder of the current term for the vacant Business Director position. Toby will serve until elections occur in summer 2013, but this short term will be filled with a flurry of activity. Toby enjoys the full support of John Clark, another IAFCCP Past President, in filling this role. Together, Toby and John will act as a team to realize the full potential of this important duty. We want to extend sincere appreciation to GoldenHour for their support in hosting our reception to recognize Air Zermatt and the 160 th SOAR for their commitment to FP-C certification. Günther Willisch and Oliver Kreuzer of Air Zermatt traveled from Switzerland to attend AMTC and represent Air Zermatt in being recognized by both the IAFCCP and the Board for Critical Care Transport Paramedic Certification BCCTPC) for Air Zermatt achieving the milestone of 100% FP-C certification. In addition, the BCCTPC recognized the 160 th SOAR for their dedication to the FP-C standard, and making the FP-C a requirement of being mission-capable for deployment. During the IAFCCP General Membership meeting, we held a vote regarding bylaws changes. We successfully passed language that requires IAFCCP board members to attend the majority of telephone conference calls, in addition to the required in-person meetings previously included. During this meeting, we also listened closely to comments from our international members, with intent to correct any misperceptions or oversight. Looking forward, the IAFCCP remains committed to ongoing collaboration with our colleagues in AAMS, AMPA, ASTNA, NAACS, NEMSPA, and others. We have projects ahead that will demand candor and cooperation and we are committed to productive outcomes. As an international association, we will act to embrace and develop our commitment to our international presence, to ensure that our international members have the support that we can offer. Most importantly we will continue our effort to being an active and responsive) board that works to represent our members, those of you who have dedicated yourselves to advancing our shared profession. Please use the IAFCCP website iafccp.org) to share your suggestions for how to improve your association. I look forward to reading them. See you in Virginia Beach! Best regards and Be Safe.
