Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT) (~55 teams) Composition - Physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, paramedics, EMTs, training officers, information technology specialists, security, sanitation, communications, and other health/logistical personnel. Number - Typically members. Deploy 50 members, smaller strike teams. Teams are selfsufficient for up to 72 hours in a disaster area and treat up to 250 patients per day. 1

Demobilization phase Incident Command System (ICS) Incident Command System is the standard organization and command structure of operation. An on-scene emergency management structure without being hindered by jurisdictional boundaries. Designed to optimize resource management during incidents. Superstorm Sandy, 2012 Superstorm Sandy Timeline, 2012 October 22 A tropical depression forms in the Caribbean Sea off Nicaragua. October 24 Sandy is a Category 1 hurricane as it moves across the Caribbean and crosses Jamaica with winds of 80 mph; 20 inches of rain on Hispaniola. October 26 Sandy strengthens from Jamaica to Cuba with winds of 110 mph. October 27 Sandy moves away from the Bahamas and turns to Florida. October 28 Sandy continues to the coasts of Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina w/ winds of 80 mph. Unusual configuration of weather is converging, and the storm becomes a powerful, hybrid superstorm. Superstorm Sandy Timeline, 2012 October 29 12:30 p.m.: Sandy has made its expected sharp turn toward the northwest on a path for the coast of New Jersey. The storm dumps heavy snow in Virginia, West Virginia and North Carolina. 8 p.m.: Sandy s center comes ashore near Atlantic City, New Jersey. DMAT October 29 Three teams are deployed: d TN-1, FL-6, FL6 and NC-1. NC1 They were staged at Frederick, MD and the 1 st two moved to shelters in New Jersey. 6 teams including Tx-4 are put on alert. 2
