3 Shelby Iron Works Monument Dedication Joe E. Clark and Donna Clark attended the Shelby Iron Works Confederate monument dedication at Shelby Iron Works Park in Shelby County on 29 June Pictured at left: Alabama Division President Donna Clark, Sharon Wood of Shelby Iron Works 2653, and Betty Zeitz, President of Shelby Iron Works The monument was sponsored by Shelby Iron Works 2543, UDC, and Capt. William Houston Shelby Camp 1537, SCV. The iron works was the main supplier for the Selma armory during the war, producing guns, cannon balls, horseshoes, and other equipment for the war effort. The armor plating for at least two Confederate ironclads, CSS Tennessee and CSS Mobile, also came from Shelby. CSS H. L. Hunley On 30 June, Camp 911 Color Sergeant Stuart Mock visited the Warren Lasch Conservation Center in Charleston, South Carolina, to view the Hunley, shown below (L) resting in its waterfilled conservation tank. (Below, R): the grave of Lt. George Dixon, in Magnolia Cemetery in Charleston. Dixon commanded Hunley in her mission to sink the blockade vessel USS Housatonic.
