2 Ministry of Defence Sudan Mine Action Programme IMSMA Monthly Report- February 217 The government of Sudan continues its commitment to Ottawa treaty obligations, through the Ministry of Defense Represented by the National Mine Action Center. That holds the national and international contributions Coordination, through mines clearance operations, unexploded ordnance, and remnants of war. As a completion of what has been implemented since the beginning of the program, and an update of the previous reports, On The National Mine Action Center efforts, In areas that proved contaminated with landmines and unexploded remnants of war, which Impeding people to practice their works in the fields of agriculture and grazing, And also disturb traffic flow in public roads, linking production areas with consumption and export areas. This report aims to highlight the outstanding steps in February 217, regarding to mine action programs and clearance operations in each of kassala state areas (Rassai,Aboalaga,Algarada and Hamashkorabe), also in blue Nile state ( Geissan, Pellnq, Roseires and Dernq), in addition to south kordofan state (hajer alnar,alsmma,toko)areas. In conjunction with the ongoing work in registered areas of the state. It is worth mentioning the significant response of local authorities with the program. Since early 22 the Sudan Mine Action Programme has registered 2,957 hazardous areas in its database (IMSMA). So far, 2,738 hazardous areas had been cleared by using various methods. In 217 total of 31 new hazardous areas were registered total of 21 hazardous areas had been cleared. During this month total of 16 new hazardous areas were registered and total of 13 hazardous areas had been cleared. 219 active hazardous areas with a total area of 28,61,387 sqm remain to be cleared. Please refer to table 1.1. A total area of 13,128,835 sqm has been released and handed over to communities free of Mines and Explosives Remnant of War (ERW). In 217 total of 1,343,579 sqm has been released. During this month total of 1,9,14 sqm has been released. Please refer to table 1.2. While conducting mine action operations a total of 1,131 Anti Personnel Mines (APM), 3,188 Anti Tank Mines (ATM), 72,715 unexploded Ordnance (UXO) and 748,911 Small Arms Ammunition (SAA) have been destroyed. In 217 total 1 Anti Tank Mines (ATM), 1,528 UXOs and 11,681 Small Arms Ammunition (SAA) were destroyed. During this month total 8 Anti Tank Mines (ATM), 1,78 UXOs, and 3,633 Small Arms Ammunition (SAA) were destroyed. Please refer to table 1.3. Since the beginning of programme there are 2,51 Mines/ERW victims registered in the database. Out of this a total of 1,463 were injured while 588 were killed. this month total of 1 people is injured when accident occurred. Please refer to table 1.4. In an effort to mitigate the risks of Mines and ERW accidents, National Mine Action Center (NMAC) in partnership with National and International NGOs have been providing mine risk education to the local populations of, South Kordofan states, region and Eastern States. A total of 3,44,834 beneficiaries of MRE have been registered. In 217 a totals of 47,784 received MRE messages, in this month a total of 2,741 beneficiaries are registered. Please refer to table 1.5. In order to open access for Humanitarian Aids, Mine Action Partners have been surveying and clearing roads. A total of 37,898 km of roads has been opened to be used. Please refer to table 1.6. Note: 1. Due to ongoing data cleanup, differences in figures might be noticed in totals of this month as compared to previous months. 2. in this report, by Adding West Kordofan state, and separate its Mine Action Data from South Kordofan state, differences in figures might be notice in total of this month when comparing it with the previous months.
