Devdas Rai Rtn. PHF Dr. B. Devdas Rai is a well known Physician of D.K. Dist. He had his early education in Udupi and Manipal. He graduated from K.M.C. Manipal and did his M. D. f r o m J. N. M. C., Belgaum. He has a long and distinguished career in e medical field, and is currently working as e Professor of Medicine in A.J. Institute of Medical Sciences. A very dynamic Rotarian, Dr. Rai has served in many positions bo in Rotary and Rotaract. He has been e chairman of Rotaract club of Mangalore City for 13 consecutive years. He was e Dist. Chairman of R.I. Dist 3180 Sports Committee, and Dist Chairman of Rotaract advisory committee. He was e Assistant Governor of Zone IV in e year He was Chairman Dist. Polio Plus Committee, Chairman Theme promotion and attendance, Chairman Interact Committee, Chairman of District project disaster management and pre-hospital care, and Chairman Dist Committee for mobility training for visually challenged. He was President of Rotary Club of Mangalore Central in e year successfully organizing e following programs - Roto Consumex Karavali Utsav (The entire proceeds of is exhibition of Rs. 10 lakhs were donated to e District Administration for e construction of a Science and Space Centre at Pilikula), Orphanage Olympics, Hepatitis B Immunization Drive and Rtn Joseph Maew hails from Kerala and is a Professor of Sociology at St. Philomena's College in Mysore. Rtn Joseph Maew is a member of Rotary Club of Mysore West and has displayed a remarkable ability to execute activities wi dynamism and social interaction. As President of Rotary West, he won e Best Club in e District award in He and his team had carried out over 400 community service projects. He had also helped organize two fund-raising events, Roto Gyan and Roto Wheels for deserving Diabetes Detection Drive. He initiated e Rotary Involvement in Cleft Lip Surgery Project in Kshema Deralakatte. He was instrumental in starting a new Rotary club in Deralakatte and was its G.S.R. Dr. Rai was e President of API D.K. Chapter in He was e president of I.M.A. Mangalore branch for e year Dr. Rai has been conferred wi e prestigious Karnataka Zilla Rajyosava Award 2004 and e Aryabhata Award for outstanding service in e field of Medical Social Service. He is e recipient of Karnataka Rajyosava Award instituted by fortnightly Kannada Publications Suma Sourabha and Hrudayavahini. He was honoured by "Mangala" a leading Kannada Weekly wi e "Sadhana Award" in a function held in Hassan in Sept He was one of e five Doctors who received e Karnataka State I.M.A. Award for services rendered to I.M.A. in He is e recipient of "Outstanding Young Person of e Year" award instituted by Mangalore Jaycees in He is e Vice President of Dakshina Kannada Cricket Association and Vice President of Indian Red Cross Society D.K. Branch. Dr. Rai is also a good sportsman and plays Cricket and Table Tennis. He is an avid quiz buff and has e hobby of short story writing. He is an all-rounder involved in every aspect of life. He is happily married to Dr. Supriya Rai, a wellknown Gynaecologist and is blessed wi a son Sourabh who is pursuing his Engineering studies in Bangalore. A warm welcome to Rtn. 2 From e Editor's Pen Dear Rotarians, Over e decades, Rotary Mysore has always been e premier club of our district. Our members have been e veritable who's who of Mysore. Our record is impeccable. It is erefore a proud privilege and also a challenge to be a member of our club. The occasion of e Governor's visit is as good as any, erefore, to ink ahead. Let me quote what e DG of RID 3140 had to say to e Rotary Club of Bombay, a premier club of e country. I ink e Rotary Club of Bombay has to create someing which oers can be part of and will create a different paradigm for Bombay. That has to be your brief. District Governor Rtn. Dr. Devdas Rai will present e award. The award instituted by our PP Rtn. R. Vasudev Bhat carries a citation and cash of Rs. 10,000/= and has been presented to deserving organizations since when Rtn. Vasudev Bhat was Rotary Mysore President. MJ Soofi Memorial School for special children at Shantinagar Mysore was established in e year 2004 and since en has gone from streng to streng. The children in is school are bo physically and mentally disabled and come from poor families. The school provides em a safe place, wholesome food and medical care. The school is run by e families of Rtn. M. Azizulla, Rtn. Kaleem Mohammed and Prof. M. Ziaulla, children of late M.J.Soofi. As of now, ere are 65 children in e school. ROTARY MYSORE Rotary Mysore obtained its charter on 4 July Rotary Mysore is e first club in RI District 3180 and has been serving society decade after decade providing education, heal care, shelter, you activities, literacy, tribal welfare, safe drinking water, vocational training, world understanding et al. Rotary Mysore is strong in all avenues of service and has an excellent public image in Mysore. Major projects are conducted under e Mysore Rotary Club Charitable Trust. Some of e ongoing major projects are: Rotary Children's Library one of its kind to mark e Golden Jubilee of RI in 1955 Ideal Jawa Rotary Primary School established in 1969 to mark e Silver Jubilee of our club Ideal Jawa Rotary High School started in 1988, run by Rotary Mysore Education Armed wi an MBA in marketing and an MA in mass communication, Vinoda Patel has ventured into e world of event management wi her Align Ads & Events. Vinoda counts writing and photography among her hobbies. Full streng to her endeavours! Serving e community since 1944 Society Rotary Mysore Mahaveer Artificial Limb Centre started in 1998 wi Sri Mahaveer Jain Society, e centre is one of two in Mysore Rotary Mysore Chandrakala Hospital Blood Bank established in 2005 at a cost of Rs 75 lakhs to mark e centenary year of RI, as a joint project wi Chandrakala Hospital. Rotary Mysore has a number of oer projects and activities roughout e year. It has also always been in e forefront of initiatives to help mitigate calamities like earquakes and tsunamis. Rotary Mysore's most ambitious project yet is e Rotary Mysore Integrated Dattagalli. The integrated and inclusive school will be e first of its kind and will be a pa-breaker in e years to come. He or she is e single officer of Rotary International in e geographic area called a Rotary district. The district governors, who have been extensively trained at e worldwide International Assembly, provide e "quality control" for e 34,300 Rotary clubs of e world. They are responsible for maintaining high performance wiin e clubs of eir district. The district governor is a very experienced Rotarian who generously devotes a year to e volunteer task of leadership and makes at least one official visit to each club in e district. The governor has a weal of knowledge about current Rotary programs, purposes, policies, and goals, and is a person of recognized high standing in his or her profession, community, and Rotary club. The governor must supervise e organization of new clubs and strengen existing ones.
